Cant really comment too much on pre 80s trainers, but without doubt, since that time it is Nichols
Pipe was clearly a revolutionary and innovator but there will always be the issue of his handling of top class beasts. Would Kauto have be consistent for so many seasons in his care?
Nichols provides the sheer number of winners with the patience and skill required for the big prizes. Also believe he continues to improve and iron out difficulties with horses (twist Magic) more than any other trainer i can really recall. There is great skill and intuition there
Good to see Jenny pitman get a mention too. Her media profile sometimes overshadowed what a fine trainer she was
