Looking at the speedy Novice Hurdlers from last year that are going Chasing we have;
Kalashnikov (could go further)
Mengli KhanMullins always has a good horse for The Arkle except for the year Min got injured.
The Novice Chase at the Troytown meeting at Navan is usualy where Mullins starts his Arkle horse off. If you are to go by his Stable Tour then it looks like Draconien is that horse; he has Getabird and Next destination going Novice Chasing but he has hinted they’ll be further in trip.
Draconien won his Maiden last year and then finished 2nd twice on heavy ground; once to getabird and once to Beyond The Law. He then Unseated on heavy ground and then when he got a bit of decewnt ground at Punchestown he won a Grade 1 Two Mile Novice Hurdle with Getabird and Beyond the Law in behind.
Available now at 25/1. I’ll wait and see who declares for Navan; if it’s Draconien and I can still get 20’s plus then I’ll have a bit of that..
October 22, 2018 at 20:18 #1378417I’m against both Kalashnikov ( Kalanisi ) and Mengli Khan ( Lope De Vega )due to their pedigrees, as both sires have struggled to produced top class chasers. Admittedly, LDV is younger with few progeny appearing in National Hunt but MK has a real flat based pedigree and I think he might win a penalty kick of a novice chase before struggling in the tougher races later in the season.
I think If The Cap Fits could be one for this and maybe Duc Des is dropped back in trip
October 22, 2018 at 20:22 #1378419ITCFs is staying hurdling.
Mengli Khan, whilst not exciting me greatly, is likely to go here. A lot in the market aren’t going and i’d say hes a certain shortener anyway.
I like Cilaos Emery for this.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 22, 2018 at 21:30 #1378426I agree with Jack that not many of the market leaders currently priced up will end up here. I think Claimantakinforgan will go here as will Mengli Khan. I think both will be suited by chasing. Henderson has already confirmed Claimantakinforgan will stay over two mile chases as has Elliott with Mengli Khan.
I’ve decided to have an antepost wager on Claimantakinforgan at 22-1.
October 23, 2018 at 21:40 #1378502Just a thought…what about Defi Du Seuil at 33-1. Obviously a stand-out juvenile and Hobbs has confirmed that 2m Novice Chases will be the chosen path. Given Hobbs’ yard was struggling with a bug last year it would seem reasonable to forgive Defi Du Seuil’s disappointing results last year. 33-1 seems a great price.
October 23, 2018 at 22:32 #1378504I too like Cilaos Emery for this. Fancy Claimantakinforgan to improve more than others for a fence, but despite what Henderson has said is the current intention, think he’ll end up going over further.
October 24, 2018 at 15:29 #1378535Thanks, Jackh, i didn’t know that. Id been told he was going chasing but have since read the trainers comments.
I haven’t seen DDS since Ascot but he seemed to lack scope
October 24, 2018 at 22:26 #1378566I like the call for Draconian here. I missed the 25-1 Vautour, but 20-1 still available.
I will sit out for now, but will keep a close watch on him.
October 25, 2018 at 10:50 #137859925/1 still available with Hills Lemons. I opted for 20/1 to win any race tho.
October 28, 2018 at 16:15 #1378936Maria’s Benefit is going to be suited by chasing with her aggressive, front-running style. She was a solid 150+ horse over hurdles and if she improves over fences she would have a shout. I also like the shout for Defi Du Seuil, who Hobbs wanted to send chasing last season. Apparently Geraghty always thought he was going to be a chaser too, and he was a high-class Triumph winner so I’m excited to see how he does.
October 28, 2018 at 19:21 #1378951I have backed Defi Du Seuil @ 33/1. It’s an uninspiring market. Melon, Summerville Boy, Laurina and Samcro (presumably) all going over hurdles. Hobbs wanted to send him chasing and hopefully this season we get to see why
November 2, 2018 at 09:19 #1379271Willie has just said that Draconien is in Footpads league. Gone back in on 20/1 to win any race with Hills. Still 20/1 to win the arkle. Let’s see how long that lasts

November 2, 2018 at 09:44 #1379273Watch out for the Novice Chase at the Navan Troytown meeting in mid November. If Droconien turns up for that then that is the time to back him for the Arkle because after he hoses up in that he’ll be down to single figures. Mullins is unreliable because he has so many options but he is also predictable in his thought processes. People like to give out about him because he says this is the plan and then the plan changes. That’s the risk with Ante Post betting; it’s why the odds are so good but he does tend to follow a pattern; his number 1 Supreme horse usually goes for the Moscow Flyer, his Ballymore horse usually takes in the Delloitte (but they’ve moved the Delloite back to 2 miles now so maybe that changes things).
All we know about Draconien is he’s a fast horse who does his best work on good ground and from what they are saying they are really happy with how he jumps a fence; speed and jumping are key to a good Arkle horse. He’s still 25/1 with paddy Power
November 3, 2018 at 20:42 #1379631Mullins is prone to changing his mind so despite saying in his stable tour that Melon will go the Champion Hurdle route, I’ve a feeling he may go for this, seeing as Laurina is likely to be his number 1. Draconien a bit of an unknown but won well at Punchestown, will follow with interest but going to risk Melon at 16s.
November 4, 2018 at 22:06 #1379734Think Melon will win the Morgiana in 2 weeks and then you’ll get 30/1 for this
November 5, 2018 at 10:29 #1379763That may be, but I’d love to see Melon jump a fence!
November 5, 2018 at 11:04 #1379765Really taken by chase debut of Claimantakinforgan. Good race that at Uttox – remember Garde Le Victoire beating Bristol de Mai in that race a few years ago!
