I’m sure it’s something “low-grade” as Aidan likes to describe this, but if Christmas Day was coughing on the way to the start yesterday, why were there no concerns about his participation? I’m sure he might have coughed prior to that too.
For a man whom likes to mention half the world when interviewed, this one piece of information took him quite a while. I don’t think it’s that insignificant to the betting public, but who knows what else is kept secret at BallydoyleBeen going on for a couple of months according to him.
The more I know the less I understand.
Strange how GS and Haffner ran so poorly. The 2yos are kept separate from the older horses. Are the 2yo colts held separate to the fillies?

Getting his excuse in for why a Derby winner ran like a drain. Got to try to protect his stud fee, before he gets filed under National Hunt sire or sold abroad.

The Acomb was the race before the Great Voltigeur. I wouldn’t be surprised if Christmas Day coughed all over Haffner all the way there and all the way home, then Haffner gave it to his buddy GS. Wish Aidan had told us that before I backed him.

Yesterday Constitution River lost because he was too fast. Today it’s because he got the bug. If he goes to Ascot and loses it’ll be because the ground is too soft and he’s a beautiful mover. If he goes to the breeders cup turf and loses it’ll be because he is too fast and classy for 12f*
It’ll be interesting to see if he stays in training as a 4yo. Auguste Rodin did (and his strike rate declined) but he had only won one 10f G1 as a 3yo; CR has won two.
*edited- just read that he is so fast and fab that he might actually be a miler, so not likely go 12f.
Did anyone ask Aidan if Together Now has ran away from home.?

Is O’Brien doing a ‘Reggie Perrin’ because the decline of his horses can be quite starting then suddenly revive before going into long term deterioration and knocking around in lower class group races?
Would people believe watching on Sat that Lambourn was a former Derby winner?
Another point if I may,is it my imagination that the Epsom Derby is now more a graveyard that a launchpad to the rest of a horses career?
I’m finding trusting group form to be a sure way to the poorhouse.
good luck to allPrior to 2011 Coolmore’s only Derby winners were High Chaparral and Galileo and those came a decade earlier in 2001 and 2002. Say no more about those two as they were outstanding. 2011 to 2026 Coolmore have taken 11 of the 16 runnings with some pretty average horses. The Derby used to be the highlight of the flat season, it isn’t anymore.
The more I know the less I understand.
It’s quite ironic that Coolmore are credited with basically keeping the Derby going, yet are ruining it by winning it with some pretty poor horses.
Mind you, the fact that they can do so doesn’t say much for Juddmonte, Godolphin, Amo Racing, et al.
If they have this low grade infection then they clearly don’t seem to know which ones do have it if they are still running horses regardless – also, should he really be running his horses with this going on as surely there is a chance of this ‘infection’ infecting other horses the O’Brien runners come into close contact with at the races?
Re: Christmas Day, let face it but outside of the Derby win (run in conditions he clearly coped with better than anything else) he has always been exposed as merely a decent horse and nothing more. If he stays in training, I fully expect him to take up the pace making role that the 2025 Derby winner Lambourn has now been saddled with.
Coolmore have such a conveyor belt of very good to high class well bred horses (that would be a stable star in most other yards) that they can easily (and duly do) sacrifice many of them to a pacemaker role.
Constitution River was over hyped as the next big thing not only by Aidan but by a lot in the media, his French Derby and Eclipse wins (form wise) weren’t anything overly special at the time and have aged rather badly but then added to the fact that at both York and Leopardstown they got the tactics for him badly wrong (sitting handy off a strongish pace and thus making him a bit of a sitting duck for the closers to pick off – yes at York he pulled too hard early but he settled ok on Saturday but still got soften up by his own stable companions).
I would much prefer to see him dropped in in mid field or towards the back with no pace makers in the race wherever he goes next (likely Champion Stakes) but I rather suspect that won’t happen and as others have said, another defeat will likely be put down to Ascot soft ground…..although given the unusually warm weather, sods law is that we get one of those rare decent ground Champions Day and then they will need to find another excuse as he will likely get beat again there too.
It is rather a sad state of affairs to see very good Coolmore horses regularly discarded into the role bin of pacemaker for the benefit of the next Aidan anointed one and while to a much lesser extent Godolphin do it, Coolmore have turned the practice into somewhat of an art form and given that they can often go mobbed handed in some of the top races with this ploy I don’t think is good for the sport………as trying to explain to lesser informed fans or potential new fans coming into the sport that: ‘oh no you can’t back those two, three or even four horses in this race as they are not actually in it to win or even achieve their best position in the race’ is not likely to attract people long term.
