I think its just on ATR. To be honest I don’t watch much racing on terrestrial TV these days as the coverage is generally poor. However I take your point not everyone has ATR / RUK and its a shame if as I suspect the Irish Derby is no longer shown on terrestrial TV. Probably hasn’t been for a couple of years now come to think of it.

Pity that. It begs the question of why C4 covered yesterdays Pretty Polly Stakes? They obviously have the infrastructure in place to carry the race

The BBC showed it on the red button last year, without much pre-publicity, but I don’t know whether that was just the satellite red button, or the Freeview one as well. Definitely won’t be 301 as that is Glastonbury, so give 302 a shot instead.

Not on terrestial TV but I believe Five Live is covering the race – assuming it does not clash with the tiddlywinks.

RTE Racing on live in the Gulf. Once again thanks to Sheikh Mo.

BBC are showing Hickstead from 2-5pm so why not show it live or at least a recording.

Pity C4 couldnt show the Summer National and the Irish Derby, that would have been a nice double header.

Yes – extra-time for the footie is bad news for any prospective covering of the Irish Derby.

Although I’ve got a monthly internet contract with attheraces, I never use it as I can’t be bothered to log in to Internet Explorer instead of Firefox.

I’ll listen to both the Irish Derby and Summer National on Betfair/Timeform Radio instead.

Going to be on R5Live I’ve just been told by someone who’s just had his car radio on. Worth registering with ATR so’s you can see replays pretty soon after the race itself [thank you again whoever told be about that!!]

******* Hickstead  Can anyone without plums in their mouth tell me why this festival of mutual masturbation gets any time on terrestrial TV? Who the **** watches this absolute crock of shite? ..and over the Irish Derby? Who do they think they’re pleasing? People rightly call racing a minority sport but what would that make Hickstead or show jumping in general… Disgusting.

Believe it or not back in the days of Ted Edgar (brilliant at falling off) Show Jumping was prime time. This event is on every year presumably because the course has a steep bank which might appeal to the casual viewer as riders might fall off – probably the same appeal as the cross country element of the three-day event. The actual standard of the Hickstead Derby has become incredibly low as most of the best International riders are usually competing elsewhere over the weekend.

I do as do thousands of other fans of equestrian sports – unlike Racing there’s no dedicated "Show Jumping" channel on Sky. If people really want to watch the Irish Derby they have RUK or ATR.

That said they should have shown a recording of the Irish Derby given the likely cross-over in audience :)

It will come as no surprise that I was glued to Hickstead all afternoon. It is a great event and what a brilliant display of horsemanship from Will Funnell and what a great horse Mondrian is. He’d make a really nice chaser.

I do agree that the BBC could have shown a recording of the Irish Derby as they have done in the past, even unto dragging little Mr Carson out of the stands to do a link with Clare and they could have done a little daft slot with Wiltshire and Parrott at the Ridden Mountain and Moorland ponies show classes

Is Will Funnell related to Pippa Funnell? I’m a bit out of touch with show jumping/eventing these days but used to be glued to the telly in the Harvey Smith era. The puissance is awe inspiring…I only caught a few minutes of Hicksead but thought that one of the horses in it was a puissance horse, but can’t remember it’s name. Thought they tended to specialise.
