Gord any views on my cheltenham 2018 bets they in other thread in this forum put up 3horses

Darren I read every word that comes out your mouth I do…You have established yourself as a good judge of the racehorse you have pal.It doesn’t matter whether its Flat or National hunt, you know your stuff.I will be looking closely as usual I will. :mail:

As for this Finians Oscar,I thought anything he did over hurdles was a bonus,I also dont see him as a speed horse,he always had ‘Neptune’ written all over him imo but over fences I see a different horse again.I maybe wrong which is rare I know but I would run him in the RSA,he has more stamina than speed and if he’s ever going to be a Champion I’d say Gold cup rather than Champion chase…Colin will train him for the Arkle now I’ve said that..

Nice Gord love reading your write ups, unlucky with this years festival but nice to see you didn’t have a complete nightmare! Onwards and upwards less than a year to go :D

Think you may be right about Neon Wolf going for the Arkle, he’s most likely a Champion Chase horse so 2m is the route they’d probably want to go down as the pace will stretch stamina anyway and he has that motoring powerful running action you often see in flat horses – reminds me of Night of Thunder actually!

Ben if there’s one rule and one rule only when it comes to picking horses for a Cheltenham festival it has to be ‘Previous festival form’,not necessarily winning form either’.This years ‘Neptune’s first 3 home will all be major players next year, the race was 21/2m but like I said earlier all 3 could contest 3 different Chases. If there was one certainty beat in hindsight it was Neon Wolf,it doesn’t matter how Matt Chapman kids himself on,he knew his banker of the meeting was robbed.I believe had he ran in the ‘Supreme’ he would have won.He doesn’t remind me of ‘Night of thunder’ but Dodging Bullets funnily enough to look at.Both have that big bellied barrel look about them.I can see him being a natural over fences and any fans of his should take the 14/1 for him…The Arkle market now has a plethora of potential talent which is keeping the prices more inflated than other markets but as time passes by it will cut up.Ante-Post is a huge risk we know but when one of yours comes in at 14/1 when its SP is 2/1 and you knew it would go there and do the business it makes you feel special…I am special and have those special needs required!!

TAPK,never one to make a drama out of a crisis just tried to put a bet on with Bet365 for Tartini to win the Derby, they were going 25/1….Now either they knew it was me so they have removed him from their market or something is amiss…He galloped this week too now he’s back in stronger work, still 2 months to the Dante!!The machine is solid at 22’s which is re-assuring but Oooh the pressures of Ante-Post betting eh?

Question is this…Do you stay loyal to a horse because he’s being laid out for a race like I did with Get me Out of Here even though between festivals he ran like a pig but had no qurirks or do you realise that like Johns spirit they seem like well handicapped horses but are actually just deteriorating..I certainly have that problem with Black Hercules,he has shown nothing this year and nothing has been found to be bothering him.He has time yet to show his true colours but my patience will run out if he costs me any more.Age is not an issue with him.

Depends on the horse, how it disappointed, who trains it and whether price makes it worth taking a chance, Gord. Jonjo does laying a horse out for handicaps all the time. Mullins only rarely. However…

On last year’s form Black Hercules last time out performance looks about what could be expected. 14 lengths 3rd to Sizing John doesn’t look anywhere near as bad now. Particularly with 2nd Sub Lieutenant going close in the Ryanair. On that form would’ve finished 5th in the Ryanair and 7th in Gold Cup. Form which (like JLT) puts him just ahead of Bristol De Mai. I wouldn’t be backing him for anything short of 3m now, seems to have lost speed. Although personally believe it’ll be a poor grade 1 if successful at that level. Next season’s “Hennessey” or Grand National perhaps?

Holywell is temperamental these days, Gord. Needs to race prominently, with an unhindered view of his fences; otherwise just sulks. In non-Cheltenham Festival runs the rider hasn’t started well (for whatever reason) and thereafter the jockey hasn’t been at pains to get in to the best position for the horse… Running poorly and dropped in handicap. However, it now seems as though has learnt not to get away from the tapes quickly, incapable of getting a positive start. This Ultima even a rousting didn’t do the job and once in the pack had no chance – horse gave up. Not sure connections deserved any different.

If mine, I’d try entering in a race Holywell can set out to dominate – in a small field with as few prominently ridden rivals as possible – not a big handicap. Line up away from rivals and initially go wide, so as to get a clear view of the first fence and if slowly away able to go around horses to lead. May be then he’ll regain the old enthusiasm.

If backing him again Gord, I’d wait until after the first fence – even if lesser odds they’re better value by reducing the chance of Holywell downing tools.

Totally agree with your assessment of Holywell there Ginge,if there’s one result that rattles me from this years festival its Un temps pour tout winning.Strictly on form ‘Holywell’ should have won that race by 5 lengths.I would have settled for a neck but like you say that bloody Rogue of a horse lost interest yet again.Whats blatantly obvious is its everytime he makes a mistake he chucks the dummy out and he hates to be cajoled these days…The ‘Holywell’ of old would respond to Richies urgings.

I look for patterns. Holywell’s poor form this season coming into Cheltenham was well below the level of his poor pre-festival form of other seasons.

Well I would have thought Apples Jade would keep to the Mares race now Darren and win it for the next couple of years but whatever route they take connections have one tough mare.
Constantine Bay certainly looks an RSA sort and 25/1 is pretty generous, one thing for sure is Nicky is not afraid to run his horses in the race so I can see him going for that one myself…I do like Willoughby Court though and 16/1 about him looks fair too.Good luck as always pal.

Gordon Elliott has said mate that next year she get 3m so that why on her and O’Leary not keen on mares races wants big championship races.O’Leary want her for champion hurdle but Elliott told him she have no chance. So if he listen to Elliot then see him getting his way for 3m races next season.

    Any views on supreme novices

If GETABIRD come back from injury then think 20/1 be nice price for owner and trainer combo who do well in this race.
