I think It’s worth remembering that, in the vast majority of cases – including me in the thankfully now dim and distant past – forumites who fall silent, possibly as a result of becoming marginalised and isolated, are the architect of their own downfall.
I am by no means the only forumite Tank has targetted for personal attacks on in the past.
I won’t name the others, because they haven’t been asked to be dragged into this discussion, but Tank has been snide and even outright nasty to quite a few people here.
Yes, I daresay I hope he’s okay in the same broad sense I hope everyone on the planet is okay, but I can’t say hand on heart it’s an issue I’ll be losing any sleep over either way.

That’s the trouble with the internet: when people disappear one does wonder if they’re ok. In my hippy days I did wander round the lanes of Cornwall dressed in black but strangely enough I wasn’t one of the people dabbling in witchcraft. When I told the landlord of the pub I’d been walking up by Minster Church the night before he warned me not to go there after dark. And when someone made black candles with red tops ( it was the time of the power cuts and the local candlemaker was using up all of his spare wax) one person bought them all up. I was told they were used in black mass. I was invited to a ‘scene in the woods’ one night but chose to stay at home and read. Years later I did get in trouble for having someone’s effigy in a drawer and sticking pins in it.

I’ve been logged out for a few days and have only just reread this thread. Can someone explain to me why my comment about my friends illness had been reported for inappropriate content especially as I was just explaining why I was trying to build bridges with friends that I had become estranged from for political reasons? Especially given that I was actually concerned about Tank’s well being? I have never had a post reported for inappropriate content before. But shall endeavour, in future to keep personal feelings to myself. I apologise if I seem to have offended some people. I have not intended to ‘use’ my friends condition in any way and am still reeling from the fact that the friend I had for over forty years has gone. What I will say is that none of us should be estranged from people for petty reasons because none of us know when they could be taken away from us. Or us them.

I maybe haven’t been on the Lounge thread as many others, but I’ve crossed swords with
Tank and Ricky many a time Ian, particularly about their anti vaccine stance. I gave them
umpteen chances to explain their view, but it was always the smart arsed “bedwetters”
and such. I had no time for either of them, they’re no loss to the forum.That’s my view for what it’s worth

When my family moved locations in the 1970s, my Dad warned me to beware the first kid who wanted to befriend me at my new school for he would be: “weirdo billynomates.”
It was sage advice, true then and true 15-odd years ago when this random guy (now calling himself Tank) took it upon himself to become my advocate, defender and friend on the Internet.
I was never very comfortable with it, but while he seemed harmless enough it felt like it would be needlessly rude to give him the obvious Spanish Archer.
But once he became toxic, it became easier – and necessary – to get rid.
He’s actually written some very nasty material here – and not just about me.
But for me, his biggest downfall is his spectacular inability to be able to accept people for who they are, as opposed to who he wants them to be, or thought they were 15-20 years ago.
Pity the man who can’t move on and lives in the past – for his present is obviously failing to do it for him.

All to no avail sadly.
Moehat, I can only assume someone has reported your post by accident as there is clearly nothing offensive about it. Please don’t take it to heart, and the fact that you have offered an apology shows what a decent person you are. Sending good wishes.

Anyone who shares my distaste for the fella, but hasn’t specifically spoken out about it.
Not that they are obliged to – as stated it’s their prerogative and there is usually a “silent majority” view on any subject.
Absolutely nothing wrong with anything Moehat wrote – as previously stated, to me her only “crime” is that of caring too much.
Don’t worry about him, he’ll be alright, Moehat, mad people live forever.

For what it’s worth, I think you conducted yourself with great restraint in the circumstances. As you say, a number of other posters were also subject to considerable unpleasantness, myself included.
I expect Tank will be back in some guise. In fact he’s probably here now under one of those multiple logins that he thought were rife.
