What is wrong with horses running on grass on a racecourse
…
..
.
(light-bulb) it’s another attract people to racing, make money ideaI work all night I work all day
To pay the bills I have to pay
Ain’t it sad
And still there never seems to be
A single penny left for me
That’s too bad
In my dreams I have a plan
T20 Racing on the streets oh man
I wouldn’t have to work at all
they pay a fortune racing around the streets
of Lahore
Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man’s world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man’s world
Ah, all the things I could do
If I had a little money
It’s a rich man’s world
It’s a rich man’s world
A track like that is hard to find
But I can’t get it off my mind
Ain’t it sad
And if it happens to be free
I bet they wouldn’t fancy me
That’s too bad
So I must leave, I’ll have to go
racing the streets
in Las Vegas or Monaco
And win a fortune from the dumb public
My life would never be the same
Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man’s world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man’s world
Ah, all the things I could do
If I had a little money
It’s a rich man’s world
Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man’s world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man’s world
Ah, all the things I could do
If I had a little money
It’s a rich man’s world
It’s a rich man’s worldBlackbeard to conquer the World
February 26, 2019 at 19:25 #1399153Maybe they should copy the Palio di Siena’s rule book and race round Trafalgar Square.
February 26, 2019 at 19:37 #1399155The stupidest idea that ever got as far, if you know what I mean. I can only imagine that the Royal connection has indeed cloaked the project in King’s New Clothes and everyone’s afraid of telling him how fecking crazy the idea is.
If the forelock tugging continues to the extent that this does get off the ground, it’s a nailed on certainty that the world will get to see a horse break a leg, die, get loose among the crowds (cite any other disaster you like) on Oxford Street or Madison Avenue. At that point the daft project ends and racing itself in many territories will come under such serious examination that it too will be counting its days.
Totally bonkers
February 26, 2019 at 20:46 #1399158Yes. You can have the most sooper dooper space age surface and and vet check the horses 40 times before breakfast, but eventually the law of averages will kick in and something will break down in the manner of Starchitect or Eight Belles. What’s the contingency plan for that?
February 26, 2019 at 21:19 #1399162Oi Foggy Junior , No.
Anne, please have a word.February 27, 2019 at 09:57 #1399180Not sure that a “worldwide competion” would really be of interest to anyone but the olympics and 20/20 at the oval and lords do show that there is a big audience for after work city centre sport
It would be the casual crowd of course and quality (like happy valley in HK perhaps) would neither here nor there
I just cant see where it would fit into london though. Hyde or Regents park are surely the only two centrral parks big enough and not sure the logistics would work there even.
Surely the main thoroughfairs are out of the question too ?
February 27, 2019 at 20:31 #1399223They have done a thing in Ireland, called Jumping in the City, where show jumping was held in the greyhound stadiums (literally in the city). We went to our local one, and it not good. There was zero atmosphere, and you couldn’t get near a horse. The bar was busy with people on company nights out, but after two years being hailed as unique, it was cancelled and never seen again. It did win some award. It’s not quite the same as this racing idea, but similar in taking the pure action out of the entire experience and transplanting it somewhere else. It did not work well.

February 28, 2019 at 11:30 #1399272Saw a comment in Hong Kong SCMP:
