It is always to say things were obvious in hindsight but I think Paul Nicholls and Noel Fehily deserve a lot of credit for the tactics they deployed on Silviniaco Conti today.
It would have been so easy to get a lead off Cue Card but, in a fields full of suspect stayers, with a horse who stays well and jumps clinically, they made the bold decision to make all.
And Fehily judged the fractions perfectly, setting a strong, but not suicidal, pace and winding it up on the turn for home for a marvellous victory.
