Firstly, let’s not complain/bicker about lack of pace/poor tactics after the race for once!
Secondly, having said that …..Frankel can surely dominate and quicken as he chooses…and a few times if needed. I fully respect CC – cracking horse…but Frankel must be followed until beaten – and that ain’t Wed!

July 26, 2011 at 22:02 #365917Cant Wait! This is gonna be some clash!
11/8 Canford Cliffs – Christmas come early! Come on Canford!
Richard Hughes always gets stick but funny how he always finds himself at the top of the jockeys table for the big meetings.May the best horse win.
July 26, 2011 at 22:36 #365920The horse who commands the rail will win.Get to the front, take the rail and determine the pace or wind it up from there. In a two horse race the stalker never wins.
July 26, 2011 at 22:39 #365921One word. Frankel.
July 26, 2011 at 22:43 #365922Canford Cliffs is the best 11/8 shot you will see this year. This is ‘Workforce v Harbinger’ all over again, with the odds-on fav being the wrong one of the two. Lump on.
At the risk of carrying out some pedantic aftertiming, Big Buck’s was 11/8 with Hills the week before the World Hurdle.
As you may have guessed, I’m a Frankel man.

So don't run, just like the others always do

I’m not a fan of aftertiming too. I’d rather just get my opinion out there and be judged on it post-race
I firmly believe that Frankel will hate the undulations of Goodwood and will not show his best. He needs something straight, flat and simple like the Rowley Mile to be seen to full effect. Plus Goodwood will also sap his stamina.
Canford will let Frankel make his running, then come after him 3f out. Frankel will start to crumble 2 out and Canford will win as he likes.
It really is that simple for me.July 26, 2011 at 22:59 #365925Canford Cliffs…reason?…Frankel is the Betfair ‘Banker’ simple no breeding/tactics etc.
p.s. anyone know when the last Betfair ‘Banker’ won?July 27, 2011 at 04:04 #365930What
would
make this race even more intriguing, would be if Frankel slightly misses the kick by design and gets immediate cover, allowing him to settle in behind. I’ve got a feeling that would be the ideal scenario for team Frankel.
If he’s anything other than completely switched off, they’ll have to make use of his stride and lead; it wont improve his chances though, IMO.
I can see Canford getting to Frankel by a cosy 3/4 of a length or so. That is unless Frankel completely bombs, which is sometimes the way in these supposed two horse races! I say Frankel, because he’s the likelier of the two to throw in a stinker IMO.

Can’t really see how Goodwood will sap Frankel’s stamina, it’s the easiest mile on the grade 1 circuit, and favours him much more than Canford, imo. Fwiw, I believe Frankel will make full use of the downhill section, and draw Canford’s finishing sting well before the winning line.
Great race to watch, but I wouldn’t dream of having a bet on it, there ain’t that much between them to be confident of either outcome, imo.July 27, 2011 at 07:34 #365943He needs something straight, flat and simple like the Rowley Mile to be seen to full effect.
Straight, flat and simple? I suggest you go to Newmarket.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
July 27, 2011 at 08:12 #365949Frankel does appear to have an unbelieveable form line heading into this what with soundly defeating the July Cup winner & the King George winner, both great form races for beating possibly the best miler in the UK in Canford Cliffs…lol
Having said all that, according to many, Frankel is the 2nd coming and if that is the case, he should be winning this easliy.
I must say that for me this is the most anticipated race of the year. We’ll finally get what I believe is a true form line for Frankel. Regardless of the weight pull, if he beats CC he could very well be "all that"..
July 27, 2011 at 08:45 #365953The clash of the equine titans has arrived, and as I said previously, I will miss it due to a hospital appointment
Richard Hughes has said repeatedly that Canford Cliffs is the best horse he has ever sat on, and according to him, CC can gallop at any speed and pass any horse whenever he likes. If that is the case, today’s big race should a stroll in the park for the Hannon superstar.
Some good forumites have opined that Canford Cliffs will win with ease – suggesting that Frankel will hit a brick wall, allowing CC to readily canter past the exhausted Cecil colt.
I hope the race is run as expected – that is with Canford Cliffs stalking Frankel at the back – and then, when Tom Queally says GO! on Frankel, Hughsie then has his wished for scenario.
From that point onward, there can be no excuses for either horse.
I expect ( and hope ) Frankel to cross that Goodwood finishing line first.
Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
July 27, 2011 at 10:13 #365961With just four runners, greater emphasis will be placed on the respective attributes of Richard Hughes and Tom Queally.
Taking into consideration the small field and versatility of Canford Cliffs and Frankel, it will be hard for either camp to enter this contest with a strict game plan. They simply can’t say for certain what the other will do in such a tactical event.
In a seperate thread, I expressed my opinion that Frankel would be ridden in very much the same manner as before. Of course, with only four runners, Richard Hughes will be wary of giving Frankel too much rope – in the words of Tom Smith from the field Seabiscuit, when discussing how to approach their impending clash with War Admiral "If that monster shakes loose we’ll never catch him".
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Richard Hughes decides to lead on Canford Cliffs, attempts to dictate a steady pace and slowly wind it up from the front. We know he stays a mile very well and, although it was far from design, ran his rivals ragged in the Coventry as a 2YO.
Canford Cliffs is a much better colt when settling in behind and two of his three defeats have come in five-runner fields. Although Frankel is yet to taste defeat, I’m sure the same applies to him.
Trying to give a colt like Frankel 8lbs WFA is a massive ask. In order for Frankel to emerge from this contest the superior colt, he has to win, and win decisively. If Canford Cliffs can add a defeat of Frankel to his growing list of achievements, then we really are talking about one of the finest milers to have graced the turf.
My head says Frankel, my heart says Canford Cliffs.
July 27, 2011 at 12:09 #365971Hope it’s the race it’s being billed up to be more than anything. Love both horses, but think Frankel may just have too much for Canford this time.
Just hope we are talking about a cracking race after the event, not slow pace etc. and the best horse wins, whichever does will be the biggest star in flat racing, bar non.
Betting wise have let my heart rule my head (not usually a good idea!) and having backed Frankel in all bar his first race can’t abandon him now, however my head says CC is the value bet at 13/8.
Now how to pass the next 2 hours?! Can’t wait.
July 27, 2011 at 12:12 #365972Straight, flat and simple? I suggest you go to Newmarket.
I’ve been many times, it
is
flat until you hit the dip.
July 27, 2011 at 12:12 #365973People who think Canford Cliff’s form is vastly superior and think he will stalk Frankel and win by a cheeky length, presumably think Rajsaman will be bang there with Frankel battling for 2nd, because that’s what should happen if they believe in this seasons form lines.
Personally, I don’t believe and a I suspect that most ardent Canford Cliffs fan’s don’t believe Rajsaman is the same horse as Frankel or indeed within 10lbs of Frankel. This just shows the magnitude of the task facing Canford.
July 27, 2011 at 14:11 #365982I woke up early just to watch this on a low-quality quasi-legal stream so it better be good.
I can see that the Frankel Hype Machine is in full gear
Also Canford Cliffs has Charlie Brown silks http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_bkFIPLIOGL8/S … +brown.jpg -
