Well done on the forecast Grass, I can only apologise for Go It Alone, that’s as bad as it gets
July 7, 2017 at 23:34 #1309245Ah well win some lose some.
Will watch the replays when got decent internet speed.July 10, 2017 at 14:29 #1309625Sorry for late reply Grass, was away for weekend.
Yeah, Go It Alone was pretty poor as I said, and apologies once again. Can’t say I’ve given up on him though, there was plenty of cash for him before the off, it was certainly an interesting jockey booking, and without saying too much, it might be safe to say, he just didn’t try a leg. I’ll certainly have another look at him.
I had a few quid on, and it was disappointing though.
Great run from Discosimo for your Exacta, and he must have a race in him surely. I only had a very small bet on Alamein, and despite finishing down the field, I was happy. He looks like he needs a trip to me, as I’ve said before, and I just hope I’m right. I do enjoy studying and deciphering these Giggs horses, and I just hope he’s another Rule The World, Tiger Roll, or Wrath of Titan, rather than a Clarcam, or Captain Von Bloody Trappe.
Another payday from Aranhill Chief yesterday, and had a proper ew bet when he touched 18’s. No excuses, and I hope they find a prize for him at Galway, he’s still in fine form. Not had the massive payout from him this summer so far, but decent ew bets at 18’s, and 20’s, have given things a decent look……..edit, and Baily Moon certainly repaid the faith earlier on the card. He really does look a chaser to keep an eye on.
I’ll add another I want to see at Galway, and it’s the JP hurdler Le Richebourg, who looked very good at Killarney, and I really hope to see him in a couple of weeks. I think he could turn out decent.
July 11, 2017 at 16:19 #1309680Some hurdling to watch at Roscommon today, especially the 2m4f novice- hoping that Venezia can run into a place for me at 16-1 though there is decent opposition.
Also got a bit E/W in the 2m handicap on Fly Round the Bend and Ted Bach.
Had a look at the Uttoxeter card but no clue so left it alone.
July 14, 2017 at 01:29 #1309917Grass, well done the other day with Ted Bach

I haven’t watched the race yet, but did you see Sandymount Duke won at Leapordstown last night. Surely a wee “freshener” for him, and by reading the reports, looks like he won comfortably.
July 14, 2017 at 07:00 #1309921Thanks, had him at 12s and he went off at about 5s so I was happy.
FRTB didn’t do much, probably won’t back him again.
Venezia was disappointing- I backed him on the strength of his nice win LTO where it looked like he was running on well, though there was not much depth to that race. Still thought he would’ve got a bit closer. I’ll watch him next time.I’m also going to keep an eye on Red Giant for a while. Although stone last again at Uttoxeter, he jumped a bit better than he had done previously. He might just be a slow learner…if he comes along I will be interested to see if he can get closer if back over 2.5m+, maybe on a right handed track.
Totally missed that Sandymount Duke was running- yep agree being tuned up for a certain meeting

Nothing really jumped out at me at Downpatrick yesterday and Cork’s card looks a maze so will leave well alone and see what Sunday brings.
July 17, 2017 at 00:22 #1310402Lots of things looked mildly tempting on Sunday’s cards but I couldn’t see any standout bets. It was one of those days when you sort of feel as if you should either back everything you kind-of fancy, or none of ’em, because if you force yourself just to pick a few sod’s law says you’ll only annoy yourself by backing losers and leaving the winners for no good reason. So I backed none of ’em.
And rewarded my restraint by putting a bit on Laoch Liam at 7/2 in the last at Killarney Monday. She’ll have to do well to beat Sapphire Lady, and Decision Time looks decent too, but I was impressed by her win at Down Royal.
July 17, 2017 at 00:41 #1310403On an unrelated note, I see that Sevilla is looking pretty blue on Oddschecker for the 7.10 at Wolv tomo night. D’you think everyone has noticed that her new trainer rapidly improves the horses he gets from Mummy Bear?
(and to be fair, from other trainers too)He seems fond of a bit of decoration- 9 out of his 10 starters so far have worn headgear (though Sevilla does not). I guess to attract owners you need to get 1s on the board as quickly as you can. Good luck to him. I wonder if Gordon Elliot will become a source of talented proteges?
July 18, 2017 at 01:16 #1310514Another winner Grass, well played, especially getting the 7-2. No bet in the race for me, but Liam won well, and I might take a chance on Like An Open Book in the future, might have a couple of races in her.
July 18, 2017 at 01:30 #1310515Love Summer Plate day at Market Rasen, the one Saturday during the summer, when the jumpers get the big race of the day. I’ve a fairly decent record in The Plate, but my record in The Hurdle is absolutely desperate.
Midnight Shot in The Plate really appeals at 16’s. He’s a horse I know well, and I’ve been really impressed by his attitude over the larger obstacles, especially last time out. Remains to be seen how he’ll act off this mark in a race like this, but I like Longsdon at this time of the year, and he looks worth a chance.
Also at a price is Gentleman Jon, at 25’s. Looked much more like it last time, only fading close home, and no surprise to see Tizzard get another big run from him, as when he won The Badger Ales last year, especially as he’s been dropped another 3 pounds.
I’ll leave The Hurdle just now, but Theo at 25’s, and Little Pop at 33’s make small appeal. John Constable was a decent winner for me in The Swinton, and although he’s been hit with a whopping rise for that facile victory, he should still be competitve.
July 18, 2017 at 13:05 #1310551Thanks, I rarely bet in bumpers and have never backed a winner in one before so was happy with that.
You have two good choices at nice prices for Saturday especially Gentleman Jon who I had a brief look at before the Summer Cup. Will watch a few more replays in the week and decide what to do.Three more nice jumps races at Killarney tonight. I missed the 5s on Ballyoisin for the 2m Hc Ch but took 9/2. Which will be great value if he stays on his feet! None of his falls have been horrible and he’s not awful to watch over jumps (on the contrary lollops happily along like he thinks everything is gonna be fine). He just looks a bit lanky and hard to gather together for a fence…frustrating ride I’m sure as he seems to be saying to his jockey “Nope don’t worry I got this….oops. Sorry.” Hopefully has learned to mind his feet and he has beaten good horses. The left handed track will suit.
Rule the World is obviously good having won at Cheltenham but might have a bit too much weight. Devil’s Bride ran well LTO behind what I think are two good horses, and has JJ Slevin on who is great value for his claim, but I feel the distance is just a bit short.Conrad Hastings looks good and should win his race but I also like the look of Freewheelin Dylan who put in a very nice round of jumping to win LTO (albeit only in a hunter chase). His price looks a bit long and I’ve put them in a rev f/c.
July 19, 2017 at 00:35 #1310662Haven’t seen the race yet Grass, but another winner for you, well done, and Conrad also did the business

Sounds like another good display from Devil’s Bride, and he can’t be confidently written off for The Plate.
No bets for me tonight, but just as well, as I’d have been sweet on Rock The World here, and I’d looked out a few contenders to perm him with (he was too short on his own), and as far as I can see, they all got stuffed.
July 20, 2017 at 00:51 #1310759Getting to see him earlier than expected, and he’s back out at Killarney today. Impossible to bet on his own at odds on, so I’ll do a few ew perms for interest.
Very very impressed so far with him so far, and although very early days, I do see him as promising enough already to be mentioned for The Novice Hurdles at Cheltenham.
July 21, 2017 at 00:55 #1310855He wasn’t great at a couple of flights, but once again, on the whole, very happy with Le Richebourg, and he won that very easily. I’ll watch The Galway entries with interest, and as mentioned, have in very much in mind for Cheltenham.
July 21, 2017 at 01:06 #1310856Friday night sees The Midlands National at Kilbeggan, and it is an absolute cracker.
Baily Moon, already mentioned on this thread, did the business for me last time, and I see no reason to desert him here either. 10’s is decent, and he’ll surely be thereabouts. He’ll have to bring his “A Game” though, as there are dangers everywhere. Net D’Ecosse looks worthy of another chance, and easy to forgive him his early exit last time, but it’s the fellow Giggs runner Marinero, who really looks overpriced. Not disgraced at all behind Thistlecrack last year, he’s a horse I still like, and he was considered good enough for The RSA, where he unfortunately exited early. His jumping issues came to the fore at Aintree, but after a couple of confidence boosters over hurdles lately, I really do think he’s a contender here, and at 14’s with J J Slevin up, I’m taking him along with Baily Moon.
Rock On Fruity was an impressive winner last time, and Phil’s Magic was equally as impressive behind him, and they look big dangers, along with the likes of Tulsa Jack. Really looking forward to this one, but happy to stick with my 2, fingers crossed.
Interesting card apart from that race, though I’ll probably only side with another couple in perms, namely Canny Tom around 7-2, and Regal D’Argent who looks quite big around 22’s.
July 21, 2017 at 09:48 #1310870Le Richebourg did look very very good…still cruising when the others were racing, and smoothly up a gear when the button was pushed with the impression that there was a gear or two left unused.
Sad to see poor Royal Hawk go what looked like badly wrong.
No bets for me today, I chewed over the Midlands National for ages but came to no conclusion. I don’t know what the ground is going to be like. Good luck with Baily Moon, I’d like to see him go on. Also want to see a nice round of jumps from Net D’Ecosse even if he doesn’t quite get the trip.
July 21, 2017 at 17:55 #1310904Yes, Awful news with Royal Hawk.
Thanks Grass, very hopeful for Baily Moon, and he’s currently 12’s, with Marinero 25’s, and I’m sitting here being greedy, waiting for bigger. Marinero might be too big, and I just wonder if tonight is not to be the night for him, but I won’t be taking any chances.
Yeah, another impressive display from Le Richebourg, and he’s increasingly looking like the real deal.
