No bets today but will be watching a few replays after work, interested to see how Celestial Path goes at Warwick. Anybody got any horses they’ll be looking out for this summer?
May 1, 2017 at 14:03 #1299099Cresus De Grissay is my main hope. He’s trained by Paul Nolan and was beaten only 4.5 lengths on his sole encounter with good ground. Rated 103 based on mediocre runs on slower ground and could easily be 10lbs ahead of that if he’s seen in the Summer. He’s been off since February.
May 2, 2017 at 00:16 #1299160Got a few on the radar.
Pendra – Assuming all is well with him, following his “no show” in The Grand National, and The Irish National, then he looks the ideal type to keep in mind, with ground more likely to be in his favour. Charlie Longsdon is often a man to keep on side of in the bigger summer prizes, and I could see the likes of The Galway Plate, The Summer Cup at Uttoxeter, or The Summer Plate at Market Rasen being right up Pendra’s street.
Aranhill Chief – I’m going for a summer “4 timer” with this boy this year hopefully, having had very decent returns from him the last 3 summers. He thrives at this time of year, and I’m very hopeful of seeing him out in the coming weeks in Ireland. It’s a nice feeling to be on him at a price, and to see him bowling along in front, a hard horse to pass. Fingers Crossed.
On Fiddlers Green – Another horse who does his best during the summer in Ireland. A nice pipe opener at Punchestown last week, and he’s very much one to keep on side of.
Devils Bride – Last years Galway Plate winner, ran well for a long way at Punchestown last week, and was in front when taking a spill. If in the same mood, then he’s another horse to take note of.
Shanpallas – A surprise, and late absentee from Galway last year, he’s been tenderly ridden when seen since. Versatile both trip wise, and also whether or not he runs over hurdles or fences. Looks very much like a JP horse, who’s role is to shine at The Galway Festival. Should he take that meeting in, then he’s worth a second look at the very least.
Livelovelaugh – My final bet of last season, and he went so close to doing the business for me. If not punished too much for that run, then very much one to consider for The Galway Hurdle.
Modem – Another one for The Galway Hurdle. Down the field behind Livelovelaugh at the weekend, he looks weighted to at least equal his fourth in last years Galway feature.
Flaxen Flare – I don’t know if September quite qualifies as The Summer, well it certainly doesn’t in my haunts of Ayrshire and Lanarkshire, but I am very very interested in this guy for Septembers Kerry National, and I think he’s a horse to bear in mind over the coming months.
May 2, 2017 at 07:17 #1299169Lake Shore Drive – low-grade eyecatcher of the season when third under a ‘tender’ ride at Doncaster, reportedly had a breathing problem since and saved for a summer campaign. Summer ground should be ideal for the son of Thewayyouare, who looks like the type to rattle off 3 or 4 handicap hurdles in short order.
May 10, 2017 at 18:12 #1300270Anybody watch Capitaine’s beginners chase at Newton Abbot today? If not watch the replay, it’ll bring a smile to your face. You can see him thinking “!!!” Nice calm ride by STD and a hairy first lap turns into a much better second half. Will be interested to see how his jumping comes on and see if his head carriage and rhythm between fences improves alongside- he looks big and strong enough to be a chaser anyhow.
May 10, 2017 at 18:40 #1300273Indeed greenasgrass, amazed the stewards didn’t haul Adam Wedge in for his ride on The Gipper though. Brazen non-trier.
May 10, 2017 at 19:48 #1300279Must confess I didn’t pay attention to the other 3, just was watching Capitaine for the future.
May 12, 2017 at 20:38 #1300518Had a tickle on High Secret 16-1 E/W for the Swinton hurdle tomorrow. I see droffats has backed Peace & Co. Anyone else playing?
June 11, 2017 at 19:40 #1304087On Fiddler’s Green runs at Roscommon tomorrow VTC. D’you think he’ll cope alright over 3 miles in a bog (soft at moment but possibly more rain tonight and Flat course already heavy).
June 12, 2017 at 06:28 #1304107Peace And Co has an entry in a novice chase later in the week. Let’s get this thing beaten.
June 12, 2017 at 14:38 #1304128I don’t think devils bride is a galway plate winner. Wasn’t it Lord Scoundrel
June 12, 2017 at 20:50 #1304152I ummed and ahhed so long that I ended up putting a small win bet on Fiddler’s Green, just in case it won without me. So thanks VTC. Also had a bit each way on Yes Tom as he’d won after a break before, but the market didn’t lie..unplaced.
Just back from work and haven’t seen the replays yet. I’ll have a watch of Peregrine Run’s chasing debut too…interesting that he came second despite probably not suiting ground or trip. Gonna keep an eye on that one as a good-ground horse, especially over further.June 13, 2017 at 14:20 #1304198Well played Venture, i see you are now putting up winners even when you are not here. In all seriousness though the horse won that well + it was a nice call, I was impressed. Do you think he could have another one in him?
June 15, 2017 at 02:30 #1304360Getting my wires crossed there Wex, obviously. Not the first time I’ve made that mistake on here with Giggs horses. Did it twice in the space of a fortnight a few years back with Last Instalment, and First Lieutenant.
June 15, 2017 at 02:35 #1304361You’re welcome Grass, and glad you went with him. I was very happy to get the 11’s early doors, and was strangely confident beforehand. Was really happy with how he did it in the end. Second one off of the list to win this summer, after Modems stroll a fortnight ago, so chuffed to get a couple on the board.
Sorry I missed your initial question
but all good in the end mate.June 15, 2017 at 02:37 #1304362lol, cheers Buckers. Yeah, won with a bit to spare I thought, and if not hammered for that, can easily see him landing another. Looks a cert to head for Galway I reckon, but failing that, there’s some nice races later in the summer for him as well.
June 23, 2017 at 06:45 #1305791A decent card at Down Royal today. Sandymount Duke is quite short for the Galway Plate trial and has a fair lump of weight to carry, as does Devil’s Bride. I’m interested to watch SD round this right handed course if his jumping gets put under pressure, as he had a tendency to jump left at Punchestown and lost some ground because of it.
I’ll be watching Theatre Wine with interest in the mare’s beginners chase and there are a couple of other interesting though uneven looking races. No bets today but information to be gained.
