The stupidity of the schedulers in this country is just breathtaking
today
13.25 Ascot
13.35 Leopardstown 1m
13.35 FFos Las 3m
13.40 Market Rasen
13.50 Catterick 6f
14.00 AscotConsidering the 2nd race at Leopardstown is 14.05 surely anyone with a brain in their heads could have thought we will start Leopardstown at 13.30. There is then a 10 min gap between a 6f race and the next at Ascot.
I assume this must be tv rights related but it just shows the stupidity of the people who decide these things.
October 20, 2018 at 10:19 #1377998have I missed something, Steve?
So you’re suggesting the Leopardstown 1:35 at 1:30. Which means it’ll be 5 minutes after the Ascot Stayers race. Stayers races obviously take longer to finish than 6f races; so there’d be even less of a gap between races.Value Is EverythingOctober 20, 2018 at 10:56 #1378010I’ve long held the view that the schedule is drawn up by chimpanzees at a chimps tea party.
October 20, 2018 at 11:05 #1378012Too much racing, you cannot get a quart into a pint pot.
The BHA is next to useless and not just based on this issue.
October 20, 2018 at 11:10 #1378014As Leopardstown is in another country I assume the schedulers wouldn’t take them in to consideration
October 20, 2018 at 11:18 #1378016Don’t forget that Stratford also starts at 2:30 as well further complicating things later in the day – it seems odd that for a phone call or two between UK/Ireland you could stagger the times much better afterall there are plenty of times where they co-operate with race starts being delayed in the UK to wait for a race in Ireland to finish.
Ascot’s timetable is obviously geared around a TV schedule but the powers that be knew that well in advance and at the minimum there should be at least 10mins between races if not 15mins and that is assuming that all races go off to time which we know is something at times can be more strictly enforced.
They all preach about better harmonising of rules and regulations on a worldwide stage yet can’t even arrange for races not to overlap in their own back yard….beggars belief in this day and age really.
October 20, 2018 at 11:27 #1378017aaronizneez, the schedulers do take the Irish racing into consideration. Apart from Bank Holidays it is rare for an Irish race to be scheduled for the same off time as a British race and the start of British races are regularly held up until an Irish race has finished.
October 20, 2018 at 12:13 #1378032@gingertipster so its ok for two races both on ATR to go off together? surely you would schedule Leopardstown for 1.30 and then say to the track unofficially can you go off at 1.32 or 1.33. As for your point how does the 3m 6min 1.35 at Ffos Las not clash with 1.40 at Market Rasen unless they are sprinter jumpers who can get round 3m in 5 mins
October 20, 2018 at 13:36 #1378071I stand corrected Yeats. I assume the UK work around Ireland particularly when there is more than one Irish meeting?
October 20, 2018 at 21:53 #1378231Suspect the ITV TV schedules wanted certain times for Ascot, British courses had to be fitted around that and Irish authorities refused to change.
Value Is EverythingOctober 21, 2018 at 12:55 #1378282It may well be that HRI refused to change the time of the first race at Leopardstown which it owns. Thus the race clashed with Ffos Las on ATR whom HRI is leaving. It cannot seriously expect to take the same attitude towards a clash with a British race on RUK from Jan 1 whilst simultaneously bleating when Irish meetings are confined to RUK Extra.
October 21, 2018 at 18:01 #1378310As it happened the first at Ffos Las didn’t start till the Leopardstown race had finished. Several clashes later on and split screens on both ATR & RUK though.
October 21, 2018 at 18:14 #1378314Clashes and split screens are unavoidable with 6 meetings on one day with 4 of them N.H. fixtures.
The most frustrating one was ATR ruining the coverage of the 4.55 from Ffos Las by insisting on showing a split screen when the runners for the 4.50 at Leopardstown were still attempting to load the stalls.
As they were the only two meetings on ATR, there was a full 20 minutes before the next race. Even if they are contracted to show all the races live, there was still plenty of time to show a full screen recording of both races. As usual neither were.
....and you've got to look a long way back for anything else.
