From the West Midlands pointing site:
The West Midland Area lost one of its bravest performers today.

STRONG WELD was just a few days short of his 15th birthday and was enjoying a days hunting with the Ledbury from their meet at Hartpury House.

The winner of 4 races last season he will be a sad loss for owner Rhys Jenkins and staff at Nicky Sheppards yard at Eastnor, but at least they know he passed on doing something he enjoyed

His front running tactics and the brave way he always attacked the fences, will live long in the memory

    This happened 30/12/11
    RIP Strong Weld

    Absolutely gutted about this.

Strong Weld and Rhys Jenkins were superb adverts for the virtues of keeping both horse and rider in competitive action well into the veteran stage if willing and able, and the two of them just understood each other so well.

Strong Weld won 16 Points and a beginners chase all told, the last nine Points all under Jenkins and all since March 2010. Fast-ground novice and veteran riders’ races in the south are going to be poorer without him from here on.

    Rest in peace, Strong Weld.

The patron saint of lower-grade fare. A gently critical friend of point-to-pointing. Kindness is a political act.
