Strong Weld and Rhys Jenkins were superb adverts for the virtues of keeping both horse and rider in competitive action well into the veteran stage if willing and able, and the two of them just understood each other so well.
Strong Weld won 16 Points and a beginners chase all told, the last nine Points all under Jenkins and all since March 2010. Fast-ground novice and veteran riders’ races in the south are going to be poorer without him from here on.
Rest in peace, Strong Weld.
