I have seen a few unexpected Tote returns over the years, but surely the one tonight tops them all!!
A 1/4 Sir Mark Prescott handicap "special" wins at Southwell by over 3 lengths and pays over 6/1 (£7.10)!! What’s happening there? I notice the 2nd paid up to the money (£2.90 for an 8/1 shot – 5 runners), so what would the other runners have paid had the favourite been turned over?
I’ve sometimes seen these freak returns displayed a few minutes before the "off", but they never materialize – until now.
Incidentally the winner was Slip of the Tongue – has there been another slip (up) somewhere?
