gamble should be put in the stocks and that’s my last word on the subject!*
*Investors should be aware that the value of Chezza’s assurances can go up and down and he does tend to go on a bit.

writtings on here, I suppose it is inevitable that one must take the unselfish broad view and accept the cursory throwaway pleasure of debate, whether it be wranklings or sketches or skits, and just fly in the moment and pull in the net and release the catch. It is all on wisp and a prayer and a whim – although there is a motley collection of the past stored at the King’s pleasure.I will always be a relative outsider in the Windbag go on a bit stakes with a rejuvenated Davies hitting his regular nails with great balls of thoughts often supplemented with a dredging up from the racing annuals. I am making some impact with insightful racing talk in the main section, but I am a hare rather than a tortoise, and to be blunt a hare that would rather not be there.
I have always liked the hush and reverence in the Memorial section. I have given up fifty minutes of thought for Munch a horse I never knew existed until this afternoon. I am unpracticed in animal grief but did have a hamster once that died. He’d exercise out of his cage like I am of occasion to do.
If you were to think of a question mark and joined the dot and put a neck on it – that is indeed me – the umble one, bent before all other posters of far greater merit and leanin’. With my present posture I would be the easiest to slip into a pair of stocks and would probably enjoy the change and savour the humiliation.
I am thankful for the nail Sir, your ever umble servant !

I have (yet another) little story to tell, gamble.
Whenever you do your fabulous Uriah Heep impression I am reminded of the time circa 1980 when I had a ticket to see the rock band of same name at Hull City Hall.
As I approached the building two particularly dim, even by Hull standards, metalheads were walking ahead of me.
“Look, there’s a support band too!” one exclaimed, seeing a chalk billboard at the entrance.
“Uriah Heep and Ca-Can-Can oh, Cancelled.”
I never did get to see Uriah Heep.

It’s not that fabulous; the apostrophe is missing. 😉
October 2, 2022 at 17:15 #1616869I do think that the Heep word is better unrefined without the distraction and stricture of grammar. Possibly in other sections it could be viewed as an irritant but not here where there are few rules.
I’ve never seen or spotted Uriah Heep and have read just the two plays, Henry IV part two and Macbeth, but never any Dickens novels.
October 2, 2022 at 17:24 #1616871The trouble with ignoring the rules of grammar is that, eventually, nobody knows what the other person means.
Wars have been fought over less.
October 2, 2022 at 18:01 #1616892Wrong thread, to the stocks with me!

Context is all important here – you have contemporary or abstract art and the same with writing where poetic licence allows a break from the strict grammatical doctrine.
Davies has graced us with the Uriah Heep story before of course. My guess is three weeks ago – possibly in the Horsey section in a lapse from his strict code, or possibly here. Not that it’s not good to read it again – but my curiosity might like to compare the two. I am like that – nosey !
October 2, 2022 at 18:54 #1616905Sorry, gamble, I didn’t recall telling it already.
Anyway, sort your grammar out – you’ll start a war otherwise.
Gladders is right – I got so sick of you spelling “clique” “click” just to annoy me I annexed the adjoining Basingstoke suburb in sheer frustration the last time you did it.

Indeed it is; you are posting on a public online forum and, as such, your first priority should be to ensure that your fellow forumites understand your point.
October 2, 2022 at 20:56 #1616913If I were making a point as you suggest then yes more onus on making it to be understood. I think this was more an expressive statement so surely allowing some licence or leeway to deviate. You may have a point of course and you have certainty made one.
Having recently suffered a head injury 🤕 I am less sure I am right
October 2, 2022 at 21:02 #1616916If you’re not making a point, why are you posting?
Je publie, donc je suis.
October 2, 2022 at 21:13 #1616918I don’t think all posts are making points. Making a point is more like laying out your opinion on something, where others may have other, possibly contra views or opinions. If you are describing or relating something that happened or just writing guff – there is no point to be made. I think I was once told my posts are pointless.
October 2, 2022 at 21:16 #1616920Fair enough; perhaps I should have expressed it differently.
One posts on the internet to convey a message to others. If one’s intended audience cannot understand said message, what purpose does it serve?
“I think I was once told my posts are pointless.”
Don’t worry; ultimately, everything is. 😎
October 2, 2022 at 21:21 #1616921I post on the internet to entertain myself and indulge my latent narcissistic tendencies.
