I got to thinking about how much my love of the NH game is enhanced by the stalwarts of the game, not the superstars but the ones that become your friends, puting in regular appearances often in races they have no chance of winning.
One of my favourites is dear old Blazing Batman, 14 tomorrow, trained and mainly ridden by the intrepid Dr P.<br>He puts his best hoof forward in his 85th race tomorrow at Cheltenham, in a Novices Handicap Hurdle, for which his rating as usual is rather detached from the others. Horses like him deserve a long & happy retirement, and I do hope his connections know when to stop. Best of luck to old BB, I’ll be rooting for him.
All points seconded without reservation. Looks like he got round safe and sound, beat one better rival home, and lives to fight on again. Another bit of prizemoney for Dr P in the Dipper Chase later, too.
The patron saint of lower-grade fare. A gently critical friend of point-to-pointing. Kindness is a political act.
