    Royal Scotsman
Eye catcher from the guineas, keen early but finished well from the back of the field in a week that favoured those up front. Has plenty of pace so better going and a bend at Ascot will suit

Can’t see him reversing form with Chaldean.

Royal Scotsmen strikes me as one of those horses who will regularly look like a running on unlucky loser

Why on earth is Chaldean 9/4 with WilliamHill? I’d have him odds-on!

I’ve taken 6’s Royal Scotsman and 9/4 Chaldean with William Hill
Only reason I’ve taken the 9/4 is that Chaldean is odds on else where so looks a decent price although I’m making Royal Scotsman my main bet

Could be right FF91 but 6’s seems a fair enough price. Wasn’t beaten far in Dewhurst or Guineas and today’s going possibly more against him than Chaldean as he looks to have plenty of pace so unless it gets overwatered at Ascot or the Great British weather strikes I’d make him a closer chance

Agree Ben. I have taken that.

Frankie Dettori at his last Royal Ascot riding a Guineas winner in the big race on the opening day. There is no way the crowd is going to let him go off at 9/4.

Really sorry to Glad but I just drove (faster than usual, too) to the local Hills shop to take that 9/4. Used their machine to break the stake into 4 bets to ensure they’d let me have it on lol

    9/4 is fair.

The trainer has said it’s an attractive target and he seems realistic about the colt being unlikely to stay much further.

Chaldean is very professional.. but I’m convinced Royal Scotsman can take him, he’s not that far behind him on the two showings and when he can relax in the early part of a race will get closer. He reminds me a little of Canford Cliffs who didn’t learn to settle in running until after his Guineas. To finish where he did in the guineas must have some engine. He has plenty of speed but needs to consume it. A mile around the bend at Ascot is perfect. Talk of him will always be an unlucky loser is a bit harsh. Nothing unlucky in the way he ran on Saturday just isn’t the finished article yet

I would say the Old Mile at Ascot is a stiffer test than the Rowley Mile.

    Standard times are 1m 39.2s and 1m 35.9s respectively.

Yes agree, but they go a tad slower around the bend naturally.. Stamina over the mile any mile is not a worry, settling in behind is and to beat Chaldean he’ll have to learn to travel peacefully. Maybe Crowley should change tack and make the running, not for me, I’d have him right in behind Chaldean and challenging late.

Fair comment, a bend always makes it that bit less attritional.

    Should be a cracker.
