Much as they have a Corinthian spirit I doubt the Queen Mum would have been able to hold Sprinter Sacre, even in her youth.
February 17, 2012 at 15:57 #391941Stunning performance!! Especially since he pulled very hard early on. Small caveat in that 2nd and 3rd are moderate, if experienced. I’ll be piling on SS for C’ham

I think French Opera is an underrated horse by the public – he should have run in the Arkle the year he was pipped in the Grand Annual – and a very good yard stick to gauge the power of that run by Sprinter Sacre.
February 17, 2012 at 18:40 #391990How many hands high is Sprinter Sacre?
He looked enormous compared to everything else today. Amazing such a massive horse has such speed.
February 17, 2012 at 19:00 #391999Hugely impressive today. The only conceivable chink I can see is his very exuberant jumping over Cheltenham’s ups and downs.
I’d give him a favourite’s chance in the Queen Mum to be honest, never mind the Arkle.

Agreed: Monster, and I was astounded he didn’t go odds-on for Arkle.
Jumping style with that big frame just might catch him out downhill.
February 17, 2012 at 19:54 #392008French Opera is no slouch so to toy with him like that was impressive.
I’m a reknowned pessimist and I’d like to see what happens when he has to pull something out. Also he was looking about a lot, just raised a slight question about him. Slight, I hasten to emphasise.
BUT maybe nothing will be good enough to make him pull the stops out. You’d be a brave man to lay him at any bigger than evens for the Arkle IMO and Sizing’s connections must be hoping he doesn’t re-route to the Champion Chase.

Very droll,

February 17, 2012 at 21:12 #392022He looks a beast, almost in the mould of Denman, and has such a high cruising speed. The way he attacks his fences with such ferocity, seemingly to relish them, is just an amazing sight. I think he will be one of the greats over two miles, I really do. Got on him for the Arkle at 10s back in September, looking tasty!
BOOOOOOOOOM!
February 18, 2012 at 18:11 #392276Agreed he looked extremely impressive, but what’s he doing with his head ? Does he lack concentration ?
Does he run straight ? Will the hurly-burly of a big field Festival race suit him ?He just seems too obvious a pick.
December 8, 2012 at 15:36 #422072Won the Tingle creek very impressively today, on the bridle, quite scary how good this horse is.

There’s no "will be" about it. He IS!
Value Is EverythingDecember 9, 2012 at 16:40 #422199That was incredible. Just superb.
Have that, Nicholls !
January 9, 2013 at 03:11 #425727I agree that Sprinter Sacre is already an all time great. I was at Sandown Park for the Tingle Creek and he was extremely impressive. He jumps straight, can go at any pace, doesn’t make serious mistakes and always lands running.
Almost as impressive as his ability though, is his looks and the way he moves. I watched as he left the parade ring and thought to myself, how good does this horse look? He actually looked like he was taking part in a dressage event. If you can, go and see this horse in the flesh. Television doesn’t do him justice.
I do feel it is going to be hard for him to surpass Arkle in the minds of the racing fraternity, simply because all the main rivals are avoiding him. Fair play to Paul Nicholls though, for having a go.
Could he do the unthinkable? Win the Queen Mother on the Wednesday and the Gold Cup on the Friday. Well, not this year, as he still doesn’t settle well enough to win a Gold Cup. I think he is still improving and should he settle better next year, it could be possible. Wouldn’t it be great to see him attempt it. 20 lengths clear with three to jump and still on the bridle, could they catch him? Maybe, but we won’t know unless it happens. Come on Nicky, make him the undisputed champ.
January 26, 2013 at 14:58 #23462It is tenpting to overlaud new stars. It’s also tempting to temper one’s enthusiasm with caution.
But, after Frankel proved himself the greatest ever flat horse over the last three seasons, are we witnessing the career of the best-ever jumper unfolding before our eyes?
January 26, 2013 at 15:20 #427576Cormac, get a hold of yourself. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant so far, but a lot to prove yet. And Frankel, superb, probably the best miler ever (tho Excelebration didn’t frnak the form in the US), but certainly not "proven" to be the best ever.

Which puts Mad Moose roughly on a par with Kauto Star?
