Absolutely ridiculous this.
The horse has been banned from racing in the UK for 6 months until it takes a stalls test due to being WD 3 times in 12 months.
SM will miss the Coronation Cup, Hardwicke Stakes and pretty much all of the season.

So long as he remains sound!

Geezus! Buy a horse with your last 2 million and the ban it because it has a stalls problem.
That’s harsh!.

It’s the rules and why should the other runners who have no problems entering the stalls, be potentially disadvantaged because one horse consistently plays up?
May 3, 2009 at 12:39 #225266He’s five years of age. He stays 1m4f on the level. He is effective on fast ground.
Assuming the ban only applies to Flat racing at present, I’m sure he could clean up novice hurdling in the meantime.
It’s not as if there aren’t precedents. Wasn’t Tidal Fury swiftly rerouted to hurdles after proving equally impossible around starting stalls, only to prove to be a rop-rated or near top-rated juvenile hurdler?

Aren’t
all
horses subject to a stalls test banned from racing until they pass it?
May 3, 2009 at 12:47 #225269All horses that are reported by the starter for being a nuisance at the start have to pass a stalls test before they can race again. Spanish Moon is banned from taking a stalls test for 6-months.
May 3, 2009 at 12:48 #225270Don’t know why they don’t let them reverse him into the stalls like elsewhere if that works, it’s not any more dangerous in my book, also why don’t they let horses load without a jockey if that works.
Blindfolds are freely used to load horses and their use at times when tucked in the bridle if anything is more dangerous than either of the above methods of entering the stalls imo.May 3, 2009 at 12:58 #225272Is the severity of this ban more to do with appeasing the betting public? Surely, it would not take six months to rehabilitate this horse?
Why not stand him on a rolling road behind the stalls and instead of pulling on the horse just pull the road into the stall? Hey presto, job done!
Sorry.May 3, 2009 at 14:58 #225298Can anyone tell me why we can’t back horses like this into the stalls from the front like in Dubai?
May 3, 2009 at 15:18 #225303Isn’t it more dangerous for the stall handlers loading a horse that way? I was standing next to someone once when a horse kicked forward and if she’d’ve been a fraction closer she would have killed him. We also seem to be a lot softer with horses over here; in America, for instance, the horses seem to know that they’ll lose the arguement if they try it on.
May 3, 2009 at 15:43 #225308Hi Moehat…..You wrote..when a horse kicked forward and if she’d’ve been a fraction closer she would have killed him..
Just so I can form an image of this, which leg, please, fore or hind?
ThanksLast week, Stateside on ATR, I saw a guy behind the stalls with a long whip giving a horse’s hind legs some right whacks. It did the trick but looked rather cruel.
May 3, 2009 at 16:44 #225314This horse is an absolute hero in my book. He has done more to combat rip-off SP overounds than the entire British media combined.
With some time on his hands maybe he should apply for the job at the SP commission advertsied yesterday.
May 3, 2009 at 17:39 #225322This is sad to hear.Unlucky in Dubai..so just a question are the handlers or stalls different abroad ?
May 3, 2009 at 17:51 #225323Foreleg, Ken; I was stood next to this guy who was stroking a mare who was a bit mental anyway, but she was being really soppy [she was like that, a Jekyll and Hyde type] and he was stroking her head and with no warning whatsoever she kicked forward. I’ve heard people say if they kick back you’re in trouble, if they kick forward you’re history.
