They have been harrowing Southwell for 2 days now with tractors & rollers going round & round the track.
Watch & see if it makes it faster with all the compounding.January 5, 2010 at 13:03 #267856I would expect the harrowing to make the surface ‘deeper’ and hence ride slower.
January 5, 2010 at 13:08 #267859They looked like they werent slowing at the end.Need to watch this
January 5, 2010 at 13:11 #267861THe first two were pulling clear. However, Machinist didn’t appear to fancy things at all once in behind, I suspect he didn’t like the kickback, and Rosie Says No wasn’t quick enough to keep up once they turned for home.
As an aside, I thought apprentice Marzena Jeziorek looked very capable on the winner Stonecrabstomorrow.

January 5, 2010 at 13:17 #267864The surface has been riding very slow over the last couple of weeks, notably a lot of horses have been struggling to handle the surface and winning distances exaggerated, I’d bare it in mind before writing some off on the basis they don’t act on fibre sand during this period when the surface is back to standard.
Also there’s certainly been a lot more winners up the stands rail over 5f during the last few months and I expect the old 5f bias is slowly disappearing, goes hand in hand with the fact the far side rail isn’t the place to be anymore though I guess.
January 5, 2010 at 13:31 #267868The meeting there on Saturday was notably slow. Thorough stayers are the order of the day there for the time being.
January 5, 2010 at 13:32 #267869J.Quinn has just said, its very slow."I dont want to be giving anything away on the tv" he said & "there are certain tracks on the course you need to take & Chris(caitlin) was on the right one all the way"
This has to be where tyres on the tractors are running & Caitlin was right up the middle.
From the inside rail I watched them working on it.They use two large motors & a small one around the outside.
The good jocks know & place their mounts in the right place around here & Caitlin & Quinn are obviously two of themJanuary 5, 2010 at 14:06 #267877You don’t think the result of that race had anything to do with Catlin and Quinn being on the 2 best horses in the race?

Not at all, but they know where to be "In the race" on the fibresand
