Cristophe Soumillon has lost his retainer to ride the Aga Khan’s horses from next year onwards. There’s not much information about this on the Racing Post site but it came as a shock to me considering the success they had last year with Zarkava.
August 25, 2009 at 23:34 #245778Only a Matter of time.
His rides are crazy at times…almost detaching horses from the field.
His cockyness will be gone for good now…off to Hong Kong old boy coz there isnt any jobs around for the Likes of you.
Makes you think how good Zarkava was with that monkey on board.
Still Though i must give him due on his ride on Hurricane Run in the King George(amazing jockeyship) ..and even still i cant stand the man .
Why oh Why do the most talented be so stupid
August 26, 2009 at 00:20 #245790He must have been a very naughty boy too get the sack.
He does showboat abit, watching the promotion video for Dalakani you can see him messing about, if the horse couls speak French you could imagine him swearing at Cristophe too concentrate on steering rather than celebrating.

August 26, 2009 at 12:02 #245847He was sacked for making mocking comments about Andre Fabre, I guess we will see a lot more of him in England I reckon now.
August 26, 2009 at 12:15 #245848……………..at Southwell in February perhaps?!

August 26, 2009 at 13:15 #245856Be good if we did see a bit more of him – the lad has a rare talent.
August 26, 2009 at 13:23 #245858Although backers of Alnadana will be hoping he is spared having to go to Epsom again.

He wouldn’t be the first to have been made to look silly at Epsom though.
August 26, 2009 at 17:20 #245897Soumillon is a talented jockey. He is coolness personified, but overplays the cheeky chappy bit in trying to out do his role model, Frankie.
Not a wise move to get on the wrong side of the Aga.

Indeed. But I’m in pocket-talking mug mode!
August 28, 2009 at 14:22 #246218If the Irish Times are to be believed…..
The paper claims the 28-year-old Soumillon made the comments about Fabre during a jockeys’ gala dinner at the Deauville Casino on Saturday.
He said he was happy that Alain de Royer-Dupre had become champion trainer, and added of Fabre: "He’s so small you can hardly see him."
Soumillon later apologised.
"To be fair, though, Soumillon is the least of my concerns. He is not a friend of mine, he never has been and he never will be. I don’t care at all (about him)."
August 28, 2009 at 15:18 #246225You’d think the Hong Kong Jockey Club will be in the process of putting together a pre-welcome gift basket for Christophe.
The fans love him (and in some cases – financially – live off him) and the racing scene is perfect for his rockstar persona.
Gets a chance to emulate Frankie, too, in some shape or form.
August 28, 2009 at 16:43 #246231at or near the top of jockey performers during his usual winter stint, but so far the HK welcome gift comprises:
– being jocked off Good Ba Ba, with Doleuze getting the ride back under the new trainer,
and
– having Gerald Mosse – the AK’s previous retained rider and apparently up on too many AK-owned horses trained by Alain de Royer Dupre for Soumillon’s reported liking – also in HK from this October through March.
also, after previous much-publicised separate incidents in HK with Jamie Spencer and with the son of trainer John Moore, one always wonders when the handbags are next due out.
maybe he has other immediate plans – reportedly has a licence to ride in Japan over the coming months…..
