What a fabulous race I know very little about it but in recent years have been up early bright eyed and bushy tailed for this race.
Absurde

if a top former British horse fails a vets test later this horse could be the main beneficiary.
the Mullins second string but potentially better treated by their ascot form. Mullins a master of subterfuge and half of Britain on the other horse who is yet to race in such an exacting race on the flat despite routing the field at Ascot. Just like the Ebor Willie has booked a top jockey for the second string and he has in Zac Purton a top Aussie jockey who is desperate to win this race from his position of Hong Kong’s top jockey year on year. Frankie Dettori is mercifully starting his suspension now and the stewards always come down on his style of riding hard in this race. But he was the choice at York and won well. If Zac thought he could win this race on another horse he’d have gone in that direction elsewhere. Ryan Moore’s fantastic ride on Saturday night remains fresh in the mind but this may not be the cakewalk many people think it is going to be.

nice low draw and great form on the Balance.

drawn out in the car park but gets a massive pull from non runner. Experienced and controversial jockey on board ,who aims to win. Gets bundles of free energy despite seemingly impossible draw.

can take this maiden hurdle.
To all intents and purposes this runner is essentially “unbeaten” having fought out a two horse rallying finish with the very well regarded Jango Baie of Nicky Henderson’s at Ascot. Both horses looked listed class that day and given it was a novice hurdle this represents a drop in class whatever the grade. With an Irish raider rated 119 after going handicapping I’d rate the selection 125 easily and save for that schooling defeat was an impressive point to point winner and the 200k fee looked well worth it at Ascot.

NYSOS
WinI’m disappointed with that selection and have to kickback with a replacement choice. It is something I’m compelled to do as I like to finish with a winner. I’ve posted in “the tree 🌲 thread” that I specialise in the lucky last but this bob hope race is the penultimate contest, not the final race on the card. The non runner here is also trained by Bob Baffert and with a total field of just five any non runner is linked to just about every other runner here. I’ll pick this up in the non runners thread but with an 11 length win last time and a rating approaching two stone clear of the nearest rival NYSOS looks absolutely nailed on to win here.

Harsh to win by 5.0 lengths or more @ 4/6December 10, 2023 at 12:41 #1673365Harsh romped home readily enough but with Celtic dithering I’ve taken the offer to make some decent profit and cashed out.

checked off heels last try over trip before winning well next time out. Rossa Ryan in good order and horse won over shorter next time out. Potentially well treated if handling step up in trip.

hardly knocking at the door but top weight here and slipping down the ratings. Regular jockey and only raced here twice since winning in may. Very slowly coming to hand. And potentially nicely treated if on a going day.

These two tick all the boxes for me on the physics front in that they provide a couple of classy unexposed runners.
No more so than bottom weight casa Luna for Paul Kirby.
The yard were second in this contest last Christmas and Casa luna’s promise was looking assured on first three runs in class five for Roger Varian. The winners of those races are rated 100-78.
Recently Paul Kirby has stepped this runner down in trip to 9 furlongs and a definite chance on both the physics and the draw data.December 28, 2023 at 11:58 #1675364Limerick 1220
The Electrical Kid
Flopped on debut for Willie Mullins after nearly two years off clearly much better than that judged on narrow loss in a maiden point to inthepocket.
Inthepocket went on to launch a successful rules hurdle campaign culminating in a supreme novices fourth to Marine Nationale.
Even a slight return to that form should see a massive improvement at this level and whilst a rout is not anticipated with that first run after two years now out of the way, improvement is most likely.
The Electrical kid to win by 3+ lengths.
On what he showed on rules debut it is hard to go overboard on this runner but looking at sa majeste yesterday Mullins knows how to extract high improvement for a run.

The selection is too short to back to win outright. Horses who won on handicap debut switched into a stakes race have to be of interest here.
In receipt of 11 pounds from most of the field,
given he’s run in a clsss four at hq before beating a decent handicapper by 4.35 lengths

January 13, 2024 at 07:50 #1677095Very quiet on this thread as I’m in the middle of my exhibition at the 142 gallery and it isn’t going too bad at all.
I’ve had two Mayors visit in twenty four hours which must be some kind of a record. The new Mayor and the outgoing one and both proactive and supportive of my efforts to raise awareness of our unique environment in the Deben peninsula. Anyway amidst all of this racing has taken a very rear backseat. But today there could well be a soul selection and an Alexander and a lucky last all brewing up nicely.January 14, 2024 at 13:56 #1677333I thought I’d get an opportunity but there is absolutely no time and when you focus on something without allowing distractions, you get the best results. And so it is with the exhibition. It’s been a blinding success I’ve been able to interact with lots of people of all ages and the two different exhibitions have rather complimented each other.
So well has it been received that Tuesday night will have another event a closing night “soiree”. With about forty people invited.
Who knows maybe we’ll put this show on the road!! -
