A huge smile was on my face when i was reading the entries for the Blue Square as who did i see with an entry? Non other than the ever gallant Snoopy Loopy! What do you think are the chances of him actually running?
Man this entry gives me new hope that he will have his swansong in the Grand National… i can dream
January 27, 2010 at 17:26 #272386Who doesnt love snoopy?? I have a smile at the prospect also i must admit
I remember in the Betfair Chase in 08 when my wee boy was cheering him on, i obviously felt he had no chance. Then Kauto unseated Sam Thomas and the rest is history.
The most fun ive had without having a bet in the race!January 27, 2010 at 18:55 #272407I’m not smiling. He’s totally jaded by racing these days imo. Dai Walters has clearly been told by Peter Bowen that the horse should be retired, but he’s simply shunted the poor animal on to another of his trainers instead, this time Andrew Boxhall. Plenty of horses don’t take to retirement but I’d be gobsmacked if he was one.
January 27, 2010 at 19:59 #272436I thought he had been retired? ? ?
January 28, 2010 at 09:54 #272503Snoppy Loopy’s Betfair Chase win disqualifies him from point-to-pointing for another season yet, on account of that race’s penalty value. If he was going to reappear in any capacity, then, it was always most likely going to have to be back under Rules.
Can’t see a lot of point in returning him to an itinerary of thrashings in high-class handicaps and conditions races, to be honest. If the issue genuinely is that he’s not taking to retirement, then I’m sure he could still have been usefully employed riding out with the youngsters in the Bowen string, or else something like team chasing. Alternative options are surely not entirely exhausted yet.

Granted without knowing the full facts I’m inclined to very much agree. Horse looked absolutely bottomed on his last few racecourse appearances.
Not another Venn Ottery, please….
February 19, 2010 at 17:31 #277869Looks like it’s come to pass that Snoopy Loopy will indeed run at Haydock tomorrow.
Not the most questionable racecourse return of the afternoon at the Lancashire venue (the 14-year-old Silver Gift reappearing for Joe Fierro in the handicap hurdle after just shy of three years out wins that particular accolade), but certainly one you’d just hope doesn’t end in major mishap.

Good idea to save the best race till the last on the card.

Just Beth, in fact, but otherwise I echo all you say.
February 19, 2010 at 20:30 #277918You’ve got to hope that the owners of both horses know what they are doing and wouldn’t risk the horses for the sake of it. I can’t believe it’s 3 years since Just Beth last appeared on a racetrack.

Damn, confineds in Wales are going to be harder to win than usual next year Jeremy. Chestnut Annie is going to have to look to her laurels eh?

Said one, meant the other. That error was brought to you in conjunction with Sleep Loss ™, for all your insomniac needs.

Pretty sure Just Beth is permit trained, so I guess Joe Fierro is answerable to nobody but himself on that one. I can only imagine she’s proved a failure as a broodmare, as I’m fairly sure he was always intending to breed from her.
For all that pretty much everything else in his string at present is utterly hopeless, I can’t believe he thinks bringing a once fairly useful performer back after three years is going to put bread on the table where others are currently failing.

LOL. After Thursday’s rout, I think Chesnut Annie’s connections are going to be happy to forego the odd Erw Lon or Llanfrynach contest in preference for slightly loftier targets for a while, don’t you? Coast clear for the likes of Bob Bites Back to mop up the same small Welsh contests now, random outbreaks of dogginess notwithstanding.

February 20, 2010 at 15:39 #278073Poor horse.
February 20, 2010 at 15:45 #278076Feel really sorry for the horse, fallen out of love with the game and should be given a well deserved retirement.
February 20, 2010 at 15:52 #278078Very poor judgement to return him to racing, that was sad to see.
Totally agree that other things can be found for him to do, just because he may be retired from racing does not mean he has to then spend his days stood around in a field. The owner should take a look at this site…
