Any tips (other than the ones on the end of the cue)
Charles Darwin to conquer the World
April 2, 2008 at 20:08 #155252Hi Nathan, i feel it’s wide open this year, Ronnie is attractively priced although plenty short enough for some, but if he is on the case then he will certainly take some stopping.
The same can be said for Mark Selby, if can build on his showing last year then i feel it is there for the taking, but i have a hunch for Shaun Murphy this year.
I see that there is 33’s available for Stephen Hendry, has he lost the plot that much i myself don’t know.
Whatever you decide the best of luck.
Cheers.
Adrian.
April 5, 2008 at 17:26 #156227Thanks for the advice Wakeman
I’ve had a look at the draw and in my opinion Mark Selby has the better half of it, so i will go for him, plus im going to do one from the top half of the draw not sure who just yet.

April 9, 2008 at 17:59 #157143I’m not really a Snooker fan but I like to bet on the World Championships and my money this year is on Neil Robertson who played well in it last year before losing to Ronnie. Neil is also an entertaining player who likes to get on with it so I won’t nod off watching him play which I do when watching certain other snooker players.

April 14, 2008 at 20:40 #157803Im going to have a few quid on Ding Junhui from the top half of the draw, hope that between him and Mark Selby i might get a run for my money and maybe a new champion. it’s at this time of year my local snooker club becomes packed just like the tennis courts when wimbledons on.

April 15, 2008 at 16:39 #157927I’d like to see John Higgins winning the title again.

April 15, 2008 at 17:03 #157937The two matches im looking forward to the most in the first round will be to see how J Higgins defends his crown vs Matt Stevens and also Ding Junhui vs Marco Fu looks a tough one to call, i obviously want Ding to come out on top but it should be an interesting match.

April 16, 2008 at 21:40 #158198Gonna chuck a tenner on Ding at 12’s, really think it could be his year in what I think is a wide open tournament.
April 17, 2008 at 00:16 #158225With the current ‘scandal’ surrounding O’Sullivan it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest to see him blow the championships to pieces and win as he likes. Having said that he remains far too unpredictable and can’t be backed, with any degree of reason, at around 3/1.
Ken Doherty is solid if becoming a little clumsy, Ding Junhui doesn’t seem to be able to cope in a Crucible-esque atmosphere and Stephen Hendry just doesn’t look up to it these days.
John Higgins is always of interest, as is Mark Selby having continued an astonishing run of form, but the smart money has to rest between Stephen Maguire and Shaun Murphy. I can’t stand the latter, his holier than thou attitude grating at my every nerve, but he’s a talented lad and excels in these sorts of arenas. Maguire is the obvious successor to Hendry, proving solid in all departments and able to build breaks impressively.
Split stakes at 8/1 about both players looks about right to me. And a fiver on Joey Swail at 200/1 for the hell of it; you gotta love him.
April 17, 2008 at 16:50 #158360I notice G Dott has lost his last 15 matches in succession (if you can believe what they write in the papers.) and is in a state of depression and was advise not to take part in the competition. so on that note i would have thought the 8/13 on offer about Joe Perry might be worth a wager.
Zamorston i hope your right about Ding.

April 19, 2008 at 09:48 #158673if anyone saw the post match interview ronnie gave after getting knocked out of the china masters, you would have to seriously doubt his state of mind and with him, that’s the be all and end all
it’s on youtube if you missed it
it may have been last month but with snooker’s governing body investigating the incident and the intense pressure he will get from the press at the crucible, i doubt he’ll be able to put it out of his mind and while he may have a good game, or frame, i cannot see him lasting the distance for what will be a gruelling fortnight of the longest and toughest matches snooker players have to deal with – he will crack
i can’t pick a winner here and think ronnie is one of the most talented players of all time but at 4.2/4.3 and bearing in mind the above i say he is a definite for opposing – i’ll lay the 4.3 and won’t be sad if wins his first match as the price may even shorten some more – it’s just a matter of time till he falls apart

so far so good (for you guys)
Himself – Higgins safely into the next round, i thought Stevens was going to get a 147 in the 3rd frame, a shame about the red he moved to the cushion, a great fluke on the black.
SwallowCottage – I didnt see any of Robertson’s match but it would be asking alot for Bond to come back from 7-2 down.
LetsGetRacing – LetsGetOnSwail i bet you cant get 200/1 now, maybe on a S Lee comeback.65 Swails highest break so far but like Robertsons should progress into round two.

April 21, 2008 at 15:52 #159111Sadly, Stephen Hendry is a shadow of the once great player he used to be.

April 22, 2008 at 00:28 #159174That is true, Himself, but you can’t fault the grit he showed this afternoon to see off a determined and talented Mark Allen. The experience of the (great) man showed in the end and if he can pull his break-building together he has a match or two left in him yet.
He’s scheduled to meet the winner of the Ding vs Fu match in the next round I think, and if the Cleveland Cavaliers hold on to beat the Washington Wizards in the second (of seven) play off game tonight – currently 53-40 up at half time – I’ll be having a few quid on him to progress to a likely meeting with John Higgins.

That only happened because i backed Selby for the title

I did’nt watch him lose today but i watched the 9 frames yesterday and i thought Selby was very sub-standard.

Beaten by a 1980s jazz-pop bass irritant, eh? How deflating for him.
