    Entries out…..

I’m not in any rush here, certainly not till the Five Day Decs, but first one to jump off the page is Mister Whitaker. Cheltenham Festival Winner, who also took care of Cyrname last year, and I’m just a bit surprised he hasn’t achieved more. I think he’s worth chancing again, off a fair mark, and he’s my #1 at the moment.

My Old Gold and Cloth Cap fought out a good finish here last month, and both of them looked obvious contenders after that. My Old Gold had been going the right way anyway, but it was a welcome return to form for Cloth Cap, who has to back that up here, in order to cement his place in The National field, which is surely the plan. I’d fancy him to reverse placings here.

As well as Cloth Cap, Trevor Hemmings could call on Warriors Tale here, who went so close two years back. Still can’t believe they asked him to see out The National trip for a second time last season, and if no ill effects, he should be seen in a much better light over this trip.

I thought that The Ladbroke was a strange choice for Ok Corral, and this looks much more suitable, especially off a generous looking mark. I’m sure he’s better than his mark, and I could see him run a big race here, before figuring in The Ultima.

Rock The Kasbah, Top Ville Ben, and especially Quarenta, are three others to really catch the eye.

More than enough contenders for me right now, and more than enough contenders to stop me playing early….

    Shortlist
    Mister Whitaker 10’s
    Ok Corral 16’s
    Warriors Tale 16’s
    Quarenta 20’s
    Cloth Cap 14’s

Cloth Cap has let me down so far this season, but I have taken one last chance at 14-1.

I’m also very interested in Dragon D’Estruval at the same price, but I’ll only go with one ante-post selection here.

This is definitely not a race where I would be in a rush for an early bet, but it wouldn’t be the first time that I’ve broken that rule.

If I changed my mind, it would definitely be Azzerti, who I thought ran an encouraging race at Ascot. 25-1 looks like a good price.

I’m happy with that 25-1 on Azzerti, now I just need him to get there.

I’ve decided to chance my arm with another early play here, and it’ll be Warriors Tale at 20-1 ew.

    Five days Decs out.

I’ll definitely stick with Mister Whitaker and Ok Corral here.

Revised markets still forming, so I’ve went with Exchange.

    Ok Corral 26’s

I think I’ll have to give up on Cloth Cap now, though I can see me betting him again in a vein attempt to get my money back.

I will go with My Old Gold here, but only when full field is known.

I think I can safely say I did my dough with Mister Whitaker here, and he looks bound for The Cotswold.

Market is up and down with Ok Corral as well, but I’ll know my fate early tomorrow, with this being a 48 Hour Dec Race.

I hope he goes, but should it be a no show, I’ll go with my old pal Dingo Dollar, but it won’t be for much more than to get Stakes back.

All over OK Corral here, backed him twice at 14/1 in the last couple of days.

Derek O Connor coming over to ride him, mark has slipped nicely and with the ground looking good to soft he has perfect conditions here.

Delighted to see Ok Corral declared, and even happier to see him reunited with Derek O’Connor.

Pressure off now should he line up, as didn’t like the thought of two “no shows”.

I could see Ok Corral going shorter, if that was the case I’d lay off for free race, rather than adding Dingo, but I’ll play it by ear.

I seenn someone on Twitter make a fascinating point that DOC could be over to sit on him and if he dropped another pound after one more poor run he’d get into the Kim Muir as top weight.

Gave me the fear a bit as the icey tentacles hold no fear but we will know by the market i’d say.

EDIT – DOC has already sat on him and he didn’t need to sit on Any Second Now before winning the same race so more i think about it i reckon he should be off tomorrow.

It was always in the back of my mind that Kev. I’ll watch the market, and maybe lay off if it’s looking ropey for tomorrow.

Quite like Calipto at a good price and Chidswell looks an interesting runner, having won the Grimthorp here last March. They’d be my two in what looks a very open renewal.

He’s had a fair hike up the weights but Burbank won as he liked last time out
at Newbury and looks to be improving. I backed him at 10/1 earlier in
the week (in Pat’s ante post thread) and I think he has every chance here. I’ve
also got a bit of a soft spot for Monbeg River and backed him in this last year.
He ran a cracker from the front and was only collered late on by Go Conquer. He’s
not particularly fancied here, he’s 20/1, but he was 25/1 last year and nearly
pulled it off. I think he’s a good E/W shout.

I was getting g really excited with how much Azzerti’s price had collapsed, but he’s clearly less popular now. I’m still happy with the ap price, but I’m not quite as confident as I was in the lead up.

My backup horse is Monbeg River, who is too big an ew price, especially as he has ran well in it before, and the sponsors and others are paying 5 places.

I also like Monbeg River here. Can’t get really go with those at the top of the markets and Monbeg River has some fine course form. He is on a lower mark than last year, so I guess he represents some value.

    Monbeg River 20/1 EW

I’m another one for Monbeg River here. His runs in this last year gives him a solid ew chance.
