The Queen probably thought after talking to John Major for 7 years Blair was a godsend.

Ian: Nothing wrong with people holding opposing perspectives as long as they are capable of presenting a cogent argument to support their opinion.

What I cannot abide are ipsedixitism and holding logically indefensible views.

The gravest decision any leader can take is to go to war.
Blair was prepared to do this on lies and falsehoods.
He’s also hidden the truth behind the death of Dr David Kelly.
Aren’t these facts alone enough for him to be left in the wilderness?

“I’ve never understood the completely irrational hatred of Blair from both sides of the political spectrum.”

    Easy: he’s a c***.”

    Nail. Head.

“Blair was prepared to do this on lies and falsehoods.

They certainly are. The decision to award a senior knighthood to Blair must be one of the worst decisions made by a government and by the monarchy in my lifetime. I honestly do not care if the monarchy falls now. We might as well be a republic. What difference does it make when the whole Establishment is sleazy and rotten to the core?

I also disagree with the idea Blair would have been a good PM but for Iraq. His constitutional tinkering with devolution and the Supreme Court have weakened the UK. And his ministry saw the overt politicization of the civil service which is now a sick joke compared to what it used to be.

At the end of the day, all these public schoolboys like Blair and Johnson who have done so much damage to the country stick together because they are all on the same side, no matter what colour rosette they wear. And that side is not ours.

If there ever was a ground up revolution in this country, they would be the first against the wall. And they know it. They need reminding they work for us, not the other way round.

The UK was in a better place Cork in the late 90s early 00s , he made the same mistake as many PM,s and became the lapdog of the incumbent president , even Maggie did , America is finally realising it can’t run the world , the Russians are now there equals and will have to be treated as so

“the Russians are now there equals and will have to be treated as so”

I’d say that China is a far bigger threat to US power than Russia.

China is a far bigger threat globally. Russia is really only a threat to Ukraine.

If the 20th Century belonged to America, the 21st will belong to China.

Vanessa Redgrave being happy to be made a Dame is quite amusing.

It puts me in mind of something the late, great Kenneth Williams wrote in a letter to one of his American pen friends, who must have mentioned Jane Fonda in his letter:

“Of course you are right about Jane Fonda. Politically she is about as effective as a f@rt in a wet blancmange. We’ve got one over here called Vanessa Redgrave. Another pain in the a**e.”

Just by way of a footnote; didn’t Blair manage to get a truce in Northern Ireland?
Incidentally he was not Public School, he was, like me, Grammar School educated.
Vanessa Redgrave is one of my heroines, have marched beside her several times in the past.

So, he didn’t bring about peace in Ireland on his own. But seems to be held totally responsible for Iraq.

    Fair point moe

Chinas future power is being exaggerated. Its turning in on itself as all dictatorships do. Rightly more and more nations are uniting to keep its influence at arms length and unlike with the usa no one anywhere will ever aspire to the Chinese lifestyle
