As a follow on to Venture to Cognac ending his "sounds familiar?" system it has raised a question in my mind: –
Is there a place within betting for a silly or daft system?
And can such a system ever be profitable?
If you know of any such system are you willing to share it?
Just what constitutes a silly and/or daft system. In my mind it should be very simple and quick to find any selections but somewhere within it’s make up should be at the very least a modicum of logic.

March 18, 2012 at 13:00 #397580Swimbo revisited.
A dafter system you will go a long way to find. A year ago Swimbo was unleashed onto the forum board as picking any horse with a name you could connect with.
Rickerty
had posted of a fellow punter who always chanced his arm with horses having names of his grandchildren.
Daft? Silly? Perhaps.
I tried it and the early "picks" did not do well –
what a surprise!
Somewhere along the way it became changed to horses with
Maybe just as daft but if I remember correctly I then only picked them if they were in the front of the betting forecast or market. Now this to me forms the logic of the idea.
My thinking is the idea can be customised easily to your own style of betting, such as: –A) Top weights
B) Won last time out
C) Distance or course specialist
D) 3rd or 4th in the betting and able to take the favourite on or simply must be at a minimum price.
And so the suggestions can go on and on.

March 18, 2012 at 19:07 #397619As with any system, silly, daft or otherwise the player can or will tinker the rules to suit themself and once established should remain true to them.
Swimbo – Red & Blue
has a selection tomorrow; –
Kempton 3.20 BLUE COSSACK 9/2 available bet365 (Best odds g’teed)
If you run through the runners there have been at least one horse overlooked. I want Red or Blue to be the first part of the name, this make it easy to find by simply going to B’s & R’s in the list and mistakes are less likely to happen.
Red Shuttle is overlooked simply because I am not a lover of maiden races
I will not be able to post selections during the week and if I am working next weekend it will not be easy then but I will do so as and when I can.
By my next posting there may be some other daft and silly systems for us all to look at.

won’t be able to sleep now until he works out if it’s dafter than some of his.Billy's Outback Shack
March 19, 2012 at 17:15 #397746A silly system for Bill. Pick the horse with the very worst form preferably 0000000, if they got any pu’s in the form that’s even better.n
Now check the morning price and note it down. Then check again 20 minutes before the off and if the beast has been well supported it might be a going day.

The call came for help and silly and daft old me rushed to help without asking for the minimum wage.
No Reds or Blues tomorrow but there is plenty coming up throughout the week so watch out for them in the front 4 of the betting forecasts

March 20, 2012 at 10:30 #3978142-30 Exeter – Robin Of Spring 0P – 0PP (perfect form, )
best morning price 66/1, shortest 50/1, betfair 142bet price needed before off, up to you. I would want about 20/1 which would represent a 2.8% price shift.
Blackbeard to conquer the World
March 20, 2012 at 16:39 #397853Was about 125/1 before the off, No bet. But kept up the form with another PU. Maybe next time……….

March 21, 2012 at 20:14 #397991By jingo I think we may well have one for the morrow (Thursday)
6.00 Kemton RED SOMERSET but the could be a danger of it going odds on.
I bet this will make our scrumpy swiggingNathan
sit up and take notice.
I spotted Blueberry Fizz won tonight at 7/2 Sp but to keep my picks down any selections must be red or blue as stand alone words.
Blue Pencil running 8.00 Kemp tomorrow is ignored as last in the forecast at 33/1′
