After watching an agonisingly dissapointing result for england on the tv tonight, i couldnt help but think should mclaren be sacked or look to the future in qualifying for the world cup?
Personally i think a foreign manager with a bit of fire and respect should be brought in, anyone elses views are welcome….
November 21, 2007 at 23:49 #126200I would imagine he’s on his way already – the question is how much will they pay him to go? how many millions that is…had to turn it off in the first half but managed to watch bits of the second half after Beckham came on.Didn’t really want Beckham to save McLaren after he’d got rid of him when he took over; I’ve got to be honest here and say that I didn’t want us to get through because something has got to be done about the England team – why Martin O’Neill didn’t become manager or even the Portugese guy Scolari[?] who I think was prepared at one time to accept the position. I don’t know much about football, but it makes me sad to see us play so badly.

Not like 1966 and not ‘just like watching Brazil’
November 22, 2007 at 10:52 #126225No-brainer.
His position was untenable.
November 22, 2007 at 11:43 #126238I wish someone would pay me £2.5 Million for doing a job this good
November 22, 2007 at 11:45 #126239The FA are very nice employers KT. They gave Sven a pay rise for shagg1ng.
November 22, 2007 at 12:19 #126242I believe the decision to sack McLaren was inevitable, however I don’t believe the blame should be put fully at his door.
The players themselves are equally culpable, the majority fail to show any pride or passion in playing for their country. To most, England games are like any other game, indeed are probably worse because they don’t get paid enough for them. Their club managers aren’t going to encourage them to give 100% for their country, why should they and lets face it most of the top club managers aren’t English anyway, so couldn’t care less how the national team perform.
The FA is a farce, especially in the way football is (mis)managed in this country, from grass roots through to international level. To think people on this forum believe racing is mis-managed, racing is slick and efficient compared with football.
McLaren should not have been appointed in the first place because he did not have ability to manage at international level, lets face it he didn’t exactly excel at club level.
Having said all of that, what annoys me more than anything else, and "the media" are the worse proponents of this, is that people seem to think England have a God given right to sit at footballs top table. No they don’t. just because we won a single World Cup, at home, 41 years ago, does not give us any rights at all. When we play football like the Brazilians, the Italians and other multiple World Cup winning teams we might, just might, have a case.
Meanwhile we need to accept we have a mediocre national team, we can’t even qualify from what, on paper, was probably the easiest qualifying group. As long as England play tactically naive, predictable, football they will not win anything.
November 22, 2007 at 12:21 #126243someone told me at work that Morinyo [sorry can’t spell it] is interested…how interesting would that be [nice for us ladies at least!]

November 22, 2007 at 12:38 #1262472.5 million he’s been paid off with – how much money in advertising etc will this failure to qualify cost us? why do these people get paid so much for doing their job badly???
November 22, 2007 at 19:27 #126307Jeezz!
What with Lewis Hamilton and now the England footie team.
They both failed to win with a Mclaren in charge!

I had a bet on Croatia at 33-1 with Paddypower Corners yellow cards
and wonShould I be happy I won money and England lost after all if the odds are good forget patriotism im richer
Or should I be sad England lost and count myself lucky that im slightly better off and feel guilty I’ve pocketed money at England’s expense

November 22, 2007 at 21:25 #126326Steve … enjoy your winnings, there is no place for emotion or sentimentality in betting.
I am a Gooner but if I think there is value to be obtained by betting against them then so be it.
