It’s reported in the Racing Post that he’s passed away aged 28. He only retired from active stud duty last December. A grandson of the great Oh So Sharp, he won the St Leger himself and also sired multiple NH winners. RIP Shantou.
Shantou was a real favourite of mine, and I remember his Classic season well, when he was a staying on third in the Derby as well as his St Leger victory. It’s good that his name has lived on as a result of his successful stud career, especially over the Jumps. Very pleasing to see that he reached the grand age of 28. RIP Shantou
