O’Brien Confirmed For Melbourne
Andrew Murphy the travelling foreman for Aidan O’Brien has confirmed on Queensland radio this morning that Septimus, along with Honolulu and Alexandra Volta, would all be definite starters at the Melbourne Spring Carnival.
Murphy a veteran of two previous Spring Carnival assaults for O’Brien stated that the three horses would enter quarantine at Ballydoyle tomorrow, in preparation for the long 27 hour light down under.
“We will stop at Heathrow, Dubai, Singapore and then arrive in Melbourne after approximately 27 hours.” Murphy said.
“Septimus is an uncomplicated racehorse who should handle the travel without a problem. There is so much room in the big jumbo horse carriers and on previous trips Marla, Yeats and Scorpion all handled it well.”
“Aidan has been very impressed with the Melbourne Spring Carnival and he is super keen to improve our record down there.”
“Septimus looks an ideal horse for the trip. He has a touch more speed then Yeats who was at his best at two miles plus.”
“You seem to need a bit more tactical speed to be able to win the Melbourne Cup and that’s why Septimus appeals as the right horse for the job.”
“At this stage I think Johnnie Murtagh will have the top ride and I am not sure about the other engagements.”
“Honolulu is a horse that will need the tempo on. He is a lean horse that carries his head high but he is a genuine racehorse. He didn’t handle the conditions at Goodwood but his win at Doncaster was very good.”
“Alexandra Volta is a three year old that gets in well at the weights, just like Marla did last year. There is a not a lot for him in Ireland so he has been given his chance to earn some prize money down in Australia.”
“I wouldn’t worry too much about his form and he stayed on well in the St Leger for fifth. He is well handicapped and Aidan has decided that he can take his chance.”
“We have learned a lot from previous years and decided that we will have safety in numbers this year.”
“I have been down there for the past two trips and each year seems to be getting better all the time

Who or what are Alexandra Volta and Marla?
*Hopes this article was not written by the company he works for now*
September 24, 2008 at 10:55 #182169Marla? ? ?
Hmm.
Mahler anyone.
I really hope Septimus does well in Melbourne, i think he is a very classy horse.
September 24, 2008 at 11:43 #182171Alexander Of Hales (where did Volta come from?)
I just cut and paste the article, thought it might be of use to those thinking of taking the juicy odds for Septimus in the Ark. Might be better to keep the cash in your pockets.
September 24, 2008 at 11:52 #182173Alessandro Volta is the horse that the article is referring to, they called him Alexandra Volta.
September 24, 2008 at 13:06 #182183I know they = Mahler and Alessandro Volta, I’m just stunned how they get the names so wrong. Picky perhaps, but it’s downright shocking. Do your homework!
September 24, 2008 at 13:12 #182184Does this mean Septimus is not going to the Arc? I don’t think so. Dylan Thomas went around the world including the Breeders Cup following his victory in the Arc.
Since when did Murphy start talking for Ballydoyle? Look at the trouble Murtagh caused by talking for Ballydoyle.September 25, 2008 at 05:02 #182228When Yeats and Mahler were downunder, the key man the Australian press spoke to was Murphy.

Since when did Murphy start talking for Ballydoyle? Look at the trouble Murtagh caused by talking for Ballydoyle.i would think that as going into quarentine now, means has to stay in quarentine, ie cant run in arc and then go back into quarentine. Stand to be corrected though.
(apolgies for spelling errors)
September 25, 2008 at 21:09 #182294By going into quarentine Aidan keeps his options open.He can run in either the Arc or the Cup.But not in both.If he did not go into quarentine Aidan would only have one choice, the Arc.
September 25, 2008 at 21:10 #182295Andyod,
Septimus will not be running in the Arc.
