Senior Senator, a brilliant, enigmatic rogue who has earned some rare mainstream media coverage for timber racing, will vie for his second victory in the Maryland Hunt Cup this coming Saturday. He won the Maryland Grand National – not to be confused with the “Grand National” at Far Hills in New Jersey, which is a hurdle race – last Saturday, so his trainer is going for an old-school double here. This is a horse who is just 7 years old (he had to skip the usual hurdle career because no professional jockey would ride him) and has finished first or second in every timber race he’s ran in, and his trainer believes that he just might be talented enough to run in the REAL Grand National across the pond one day.
The news documentary television show 60 Minutes had a piece on him and the Maryland Hunt Cup itself – incredible camera work from the rider’s point of view.

I love the bit about exercising him by letting him jump out of his paddock!
