http://www.jrha.or.jp/eng/html/sale_res … lash1.htmlPatinack Farm (Nathan Tinkler, in Queensland, Australia ) bought 5 yearlings (1 colt, 3 fillies): #18 (f), #27 (c, by Agnes Tachyon out of Silk Prima Donna, ¥64m), #61 (f), #86(f), #162(f).
http://www.patinackfarm.com/I’m sure the firm will be aggressive in the foals session tomorrow. Perhaps, the firm may take some by Heart’s Cry or Deep Impact to Australia.
The highest bid yearling, ¥245m, was a colt by Agnes Tachyon, half-brother to Kurofune, who was bought by Mr Kondo, the ex-owner of Admire Moon.
July 15, 2008 at 12:06 #173311Patinack Go Global at JRHA Yearling Sale
Tara Madgwick – Tuesday, 15 July 2008The first day of the annual JRHA Yearling and Foal Sale was held at Northern Horse Park in Japan on Monday with Australia’s Nathan Tinkler purchasing several lots under his Patinack Farm banner including the second highest priced yearling of the session.
Patinack Farm paid 64 million yen ($A619,000) for Lot 27 consigned by Northern Farm, a colt by the Sunday Silence stallion Agnes Tachyon from Japanese Oaks winner Silk Prima Donna.
“I’m basically here with the hope that Japanese racing will open up to foreign owners and I’d like to establish a Northern Hemisphere base here,” said Nathan Tinkler to US Bloodhorse.
“He’s (Lot 27) by an outstanding stallion in Agnes Tachyon and we think he’d be an attractive stallion prospect in Australia if he can prove himself racing. We’d like to make a shuttle stallion out of him and our other colts that are good enough.”
In total, Patinack Farm secured five lots for 129,500,000 yen ($A1.2million) purchasing youngsters by Stravinsky (filly), Symboli Kris S (filly), Shamardal (filly), Alkaased (filly) to go with the big banger colt.
The emergence of Patinack Farm in Australia has been the major bloodstock news story of the year with the acquisition of stallions, farms, breeding and racing stock, plus hundreds of yearlings that will hit the tracks in the new season.
While in Japan, Mr Tinkler also revealed he has continuing global aspirations and plans to buy a number of yearlings at upcoming Northern Hemisphere sales Tattersalls, Deauville and Keeneland September.
The top priced yearling at the sale this year and by a big margin was another colt, Lot 68, by Agnes Tachyon that made a whopping 245 million yen ($A2.3million) when knocked down to big spending Japanese investor Richii Kondo, who bought the top lot at last year’s sale.
The star colt is a half-brother to outstanding Japanese performer Kurofone and to American Group Two winner Bella Bellucci being from the American stakes-winner Blue Avenue.
After withdrawals, a total of 151 yearlings offered and 105 were sold, the aggregate of 2,347,600,000 yen down by 28.5% on last years 3,284,400,000 yen.
The clearance rate also fell from 75 % to 70%, while the average price of 22,358,095 yen was down 26.4%.
Teurya Yoshida, owner of Shadai Farm and JRHA vice chairman, was quoted on US Bloodhorse offering these thoughts on a sale that was down dramatically on last year.
“When you look at the current economy in this country, nobody could expect to have a booming or heated up market,” said Yoshida.
“Unfortunately, the breeding industry couldn’t be the exception to the economy. Several years ago, this place was a different world, but now this place is a part of the Japanese economy, so I must be happy with this result.”
July 15, 2008 at 12:26 #173315Was the very last Danehill colt not also sold here for an outrageous fee? Haven’t got the RP but I think it was 7million euro’s.. But that could have been yen which means its not quite so outlandish!!!
July 16, 2008 at 07:35 #173404No ‘Impact’ Ran on the Sale
This is a headline of an article in a web-paper summarizing the second day of the sale. True to the description, the sale still lacked in excitement in comparison to great expectations before the sale; even in the foals secession in which dozens of the first crops for two new sires, Heart’s Cry and Deep Impact, were listed, sales were ‘sluggish,’ or ‘steady’ at most.
A full sister to Vodka was knocked down to Darley by Mr John Ferguson for (about) $1m because of his unbelievably high praise to the Derby winner.
Unexpected was that Air Thule was just 100m yen; before the sale they said that it was highly likely for him to fetch $2m or more. He was bought by Mr Tada. According to the Racing Post:
He (Mr Tada) did say the price was lower than he had anticipated. “We expected we might have to spend more, so I’m pleased with the price,” he said.
http://www.racingpost.co.uk/news/master … ock%20NewsThe hottest topic of the sale seemed to be, not horses, but a man: ‘Who is Mr Tinkler ?’ Even he was inconspicuous (only one filly by Deep Impact).
Brandford Bloodstock bought a filly by Deep Impact out of Lhiz (a champion mare in Chile), #329, who is going to run in Britain together with (unspecified) two horses by Deep Impact, according to an interview with Mr Harry Sweeney at Paka Paka Farm.
The Live coverage via the internet is quite good, though!
