    Friday 24th of April.

    Thread Update +£528

Really tricky looking day tomorrow, I was tempted by a handful of horses such as Spring Offensive, Tom Hark in the same race, also Aabir at Donny.

However, just one selection for the day in the 2.50 at Doncaster. An open looking contest. I was quite taken with Edgar Balthazar win last season against the progressive Felix Leiter. It ran very poorly on debut at Pontefract a couple of weeks back, but so did quite a few horses on that card and happy to forget about this run on what was tiring ground.
A couple of lightly raced horses in this who could pose a threat. I quite like Bimbo as a horse but I think it probably needs soft ground, whilst I think Danot is a little over priced at 16s. Happy to give Edgar another chance off what looks a decent mark and back on decent ground.

    Edgar Balthazar 1pt win 6/1

Poor show from today’s selection, just don’t seem to have gone on from 2 to 3.

Bad day at the office. A couple of poor selections that I’m disappointed to have made today, confidence was low before they even ran.

    Will learn from today.

    Tuesday 28th of April

Nottingham 2.45 – I like the look of Tommy’s Secret here, recent performance on the AW have been decent enough and form has been franked.
Has form on the ground and I think the track will be a rela plus today, long galloping straight at Nottingham should suit. Does not look as if it has much in hand of this mark, but I think this is a relatively weak race.
Best Kept has been disappointing, interesting to see what Roger Varian can get out of this hhorse and slipped to a handy looking mark. That stable not really got going yet and worth taking on at the prices. Celtic Sixpence won last year of 3lb lower, ran well at Doncaster latest and should be there abouts. Not sure it would have won last time out, jockey made a mistake but I think it may have got done without this mistake.
I have a lot of respect for Jane Chapple Hyam yard and with claimer on top, I am hoping Tommy’s Secret can finish well to get up close to the line.

    Tommy’S Secret 1pt win 6/1

Tommy’s Secret ran a cracking race in defeat and can have no real complaints. Nottingham seemed to suit as expected, got beat by two short heads…..just the way things are going at present but that will change.

    Thread update – £212

Poor run leads me to having a break for a week or two. However, I have some horses who have caught my eye this season and not prepared to let these go as they have produced 3 winners out of 4 so far this season…..trouble is I have not backed them!

I will be backing my list horses almost blindly over the next fortnight whilst I take a break from form studying.

One selection runs today in the 4.20 at Brighton – 1pt win Puzzle Time to hopefully snap the bad run.

To compound my luck at present, I had a nice EW bet on Duke of Clarence for Chester Cup at 16s a couple of weeks back. Price trimmed into 12s until it was handed the dreaded stall 19. Now out to 20s and any realistic chance it had has probably gone down the river

Back on the horse tomorrow as some horses I like the look of at good prices.

    2.10 Chester – Arnold Lane 1pt EW at 14/1
2.45 Chester – Prince Gagarin 1pt win at 5/1 ….backed before Nafaqa came out
    4.45 Chester – Neutron Bomb 1pt win at 9/2
    7.45 Ascot – Nortron 1pt EW at 16/1

Surely Prince Gagarin is overpriced tomorrow?? The step up to 10f looks ideal, last season I had this horse at back of my mind as a lively outsider for the Derby. It’s won on soft ground round Ponty and won with a turn of foot that day. Slow pace likely here, Kirby may even look to set the pace and kick early.
I’m slightly surprised it is still 7/2 with only four runners left .

Monday 20th of April – Ante Post Selection

    Chester Cup

I have been following the selection for the last 18 months and come close to a nice pay day on a couple of occasions from this horse.
The horse in question is Duke of Clarence. It is on the comeback trail after a minor injury last season, hopefully, it still has the same ability as before the injury when it looked very progressive over distance races.

I think about 16f-18f is perfect for this horse and it ran well in this race on debut last season. Looking for a good draw to enable the horse to sit just off the pace, I’m very hopeful of this horse resuming its progression in 2015.

Duke of Clarence – 2pt EW at 16/1

One who catches my eye is Moscato from the Mark Prescott stable. The horse did absolutely nothing as a two year old but went from 61 to 87 in the rankings last year. He was well placed winning small two mile handicaps but now that he’s four he may just improve again and he’s won four times at two miles, so you would think he’ll like this trip at Chester. A good draw will be vital of course and you have to hope the trainer will have him straight enough but at 25/1 it’s worth a risk that this horse may be better than he’s shown so far in his career.

Moscato didn’t make it to the Chester Cup but he won on his seasonal debut and is favourite again at York tomorrow.

Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
