She is fighting for her life after suffering a bout of colic. Haggas says her racing career is “100 per cent” over. Fingers crossed for her
July 7, 2019 at 10:54 #1447901Poor thing, hope she does OK. A bad colic is horrible.
July 7, 2019 at 12:15 #1447909Nightmare.
July 7, 2019 at 14:13 #1447920Just read this, hopes she makes a full recovery. Thoughts with all those involved

All comers, all ground, all beaten
July 7, 2019 at 16:01 #1447923Fight fight fight beautiful girl, you are so brave you can do it, please don’t die….Can’t believe this has happened, devastated.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 7, 2019 at 16:26 #1447926Dreadful news, devastating for all concerned, praying she pulls through.
July 7, 2019 at 16:49 #1447930As the news sinks in it brings everything into perspective when things like this happen and how much we have to treasure moments of success such as Enable winning the Coral Eclipse yesterday and going on to greater things, as they can be cruelly snatched from our grasp in a heartbeat..thoughts with all connections of Sea Of Class as she fights her biggest battle.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 7, 2019 at 18:43 #1447945Remember when Dessie had colic? I was convinced that the collective strength from so many people got him to pull through. Let’s hope it works this time.
July 7, 2019 at 19:03 #1447949Thanks for reminding me of dear Dessie Moe and how he survived against all odds, that memory has actually given me hope that with all our thoughts and her strong spirit she will pull through.
I remember bring afraid to watch the news when Des was so poorly and am like that at this moment.
I only saw her last year after her fantastic run in the Arc it was part of a Frankel visit that we stopped by at the Haggas yard and spent some time with her. She has such a lovely temperament just like her Sire.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 8, 2019 at 08:07 #1447987How cruel for the filly, her connections and for all in racing. This season is certainly the poorer for her absence. Best wishes and hopes for her complete recovery.
July 8, 2019 at 09:05 #1447988I am thinking that there are more fatal colics among racehorses now than there used to be and that is even before the life saving surgeries of today. Looking at the equivalent group winners from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, it appears that the trend of serious colics is on the up trend. What could cause this, genetics, stabling, diet, increasing ulcers?
July 8, 2019 at 10:38 #1447997Very sad to hear about Sea of Class lets all hope she pulls through, I was looking forward to a rematch with Enable,I am sure she would have got her revenge for the Arc defeat, all the best Sea of Class.
July 10, 2019 at 14:47 #1448151Absolutely gorgeous filly, and a massive loss to the training ranks. Here’s hoping she pulls through.
July 10, 2019 at 16:41 #1448166Latest news from Somerville Lodge is that Sea Of Class is still recovering from her operation last Wednesday and remains stable but critical.
Hang on in there girl.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 10, 2019 at 20:23 #1448192I’m assuming that the longer she survives the initial stage, the better her long term chances. I’m not a vet though!
July 11, 2019 at 00:28 #1448213I was hanging onto that hope too Tonge.
Poor Finian’s Oscar passed away 2 days after his operation with organ failure at almost this very time last year I believe. Poor boy.
I was reading that some horses in America had continued with their career after colic operations but William Haggas has stated that her racing days are over. It must have been a life saving but career ending operation but can’t begin to imaging the horrors that everyone involved has gone, and are still going through.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...July 11, 2019 at 21:48 #1448290Doran’s Pride raced on after colic surgery, so it must depend on the specific circumstances. I suppose the fact that Sea of Class is a mare too, and will now miss almost a whole season… makes sense to call it a day. Hope she pulls through. She will be missed on the track.
