I’ve just been asking myself why I haven’t backed High Chimes; trainer thinks he’s better suited to good ground on a flat track, even though he’s got dodgy legs. What record has The Parson got in these races? Didn’t see his race at Cheltenham as my recording went pear shaped that day.
April 15, 2009 at 21:13 #222012Just from memory moehat Killone Abbey I think was by The Parson and I know that Young Kenny’s dam Deirdre’s Dream was by The Parson as is/was Parsons Legacy.
April 16, 2009 at 12:24 #222130Nine De Sivola is declared. Graham Lee rides.Very happy with the horse.
April 16, 2009 at 18:59 #222197Mmm.so, we’ve got a horse that KC really fancied for the Grand National, closely related to a Welsh National winner, trained by someone that has won the race how many times? Ridden by probably the best jockey for this sort of race [along with Timmy Murphy],carrying less than 11 st…..still a novice albeit with lots of experience, that jumps so well it may go for the Pardubicka, but with enough class to at one time be considered for the RSA…..
April 16, 2009 at 20:53 #222214In an ideal world what I would like to see on Saturday is Nine De Sivola and one other (any will do but preferably one the top weights) finishing 20/25 lengths ahead of the rest with Nine De Sivola getting touched off yet again.
The reason for this, and this was after a chat with my much more knowledgable sibling, is that more than anything what we would like to see is a maiden chaser winning the Grand National – imagine that. If he runs another blinder in defeat then his mark will rise once again enough to get in next year’s race.
Saying that I’ve lumped on!*
*A "lump" for me is probably not deserving of the term "lump" to many others.
April 16, 2009 at 21:36 #222222I like L’Aventure as an each way gamble providing Daryl Jacob takes the mount

Who’s that then?
April 16, 2009 at 23:15 #222233I have to say that currently my four against the field now that Russian Tri come out are,
Nine De Sivola
L’aventure
Sea Diva
Hello BudI can’t go for Brooklyn Brownie or Coe because of the ever increasing Presenting stat over four miles but it is nagging me that Mtoto (Presenting’s own sire) did manage to have a runner up in the Summer National (Exstoto) but again he didn’t win and you would think Presenting would have had a winner by now. If they fail again I would keep this in mind for Aintree next year and in particular Denman/War Of Attrition/Niche Market et al.
Looking again at the two novices at the top of the weights i.e TT and GTL it really is asking a hell of a lot. They really would have to be pretty special to do it off 148/149. Old Benny couldn’t do it off 143 last year and he was an equally impressive winner of the NH Chase.
No doubt I will change my mind re one of them between now and then, probably with Merigo!
April 17, 2009 at 00:39 #222244Personally I see this being a two horse race between Tricky Trickster and Nine De Sivola, think like last time out Tricky Trickster will get the better of things with Mr Waley-Cohen taking the 7 off.
Out of the others the only other one that intrests me would be Arteea, keep picturing him cruising heading towards the second last in the National, Scudamore booked for the ride who imo is a lot better than Farrelly who rode him in the National, might be a worth a few quid e.w at 33s.
April 17, 2009 at 00:44 #222246L’Aventure is probably the only good value ew now at 40/1, but I’ve got to stop somewhere. Must admit to never hearing of Hello Bud before, and I have a problem with 11 year old horses [which I ignored with Rambling Minster]; I just think that if it’s going to achieve something it will be before that age. Merigo bothers me with Timmy Murphy riding it, but the price isn’t good enough for my tiny bets. If anyone wants a certain horse to not win but come second, just get me to put a small win bet on it..I have a 100% record with this, which continued with Private Be yesterday…..
April 17, 2009 at 15:09 #222295Must admit to never hearing of Hello Bud before,
Shame on you! Hello Bud won the world famous ‘Hexham Four Miler’ in March 2008!
He’s accumulated 6 wins in 9 runs whilst moving from a rating of 85 to his current mark of 133.

April 17, 2009 at 16:42 #222303oh no; I really really can’t have another bet in this race so my penance shall be watching him win [and, looking at oddschecker a lot of people will be watching him win having backed him…..]
April 17, 2009 at 16:52 #222305On the basis that ground will be good, I will take That’s Rhythm each way. Just had look at decs for first time and see Noel Fehily is onboard. Another in the Timmy Murphy/G Lee category for this type of race.
April 17, 2009 at 18:25 #222320KC, Moe and me all seem to be scared of a horse that we are adamant we are not going to put money on.
In my case, it is Out The Black, as I ignored him for this, as I was thinking he would go for the Bet365. Didn’t find out until after he beat Gidam Gidam at Donny that he had had a breathing op.
April 17, 2009 at 18:50 #222325at least you’re only scared of one horse; my list is getting bigger by the minute, but I promised myself after the National that I wouldn’t keep having more ‘just in case’ bets on horses that I hadn’t even thought about. However, Out the Black seems to be the horse that fits all the stats for the race, and a lot of people backed it at 25/1. Can’t help but feel that this race must surely be won by a short priced horse. Keep saying to myself ‘what would I do if I was a professional gambler?’ …and then go to the bookies and have more 25 pence ew bets on horses I’ve never heard of!
April 17, 2009 at 20:47 #222346To be honest, I’m fairly sure Chief Dan George will win, so long as he doesn’t fall.
What I AM looking forward to is next year’s Grand National, when Timmy Murphy has to choose between riding Comply Or Die, or his father-in-law’s horse (Merigo).
Given the size of Jockey’s brains, he will probably choose the wrong one. (You are Aidan Colman. You have a choice between riding Stan, who no one believes will stay 4m4f, or another horse…)

I backed Brooklyn Brownie at Aintree so will have to have some sort of interest in him today, but the two I’m particularly keen on are Chief Dan George and That’s Rhythm (with regard to the latter’s chances, it was nice to see Martin Todhunter have a winner this afternoon).
