That was deeply impressive and the real GDC showed up today – to me it wouldn’t have mattered who turned up today to be honest, interesting to see they reverted back to more forcing tactics and his jumping seemed much slicker for it.
December 28, 2023 at 14:55 #167539623ls he’s won that. Wow.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 28, 2023 at 15:01 #1675398On that form and on that kind of deep ground, his Gold Cup rivals need to hope that he either doesn’t make it to the race or we have a good ground Gold Cup.
December 28, 2023 at 15:03 #1675399Stunning performance; jumped much better than when settled at the back. Maybe at some stage we’ll see GDC, IEF, and GW race against each other.
December 28, 2023 at 16:39 #1675415Awesome performance.
December 28, 2023 at 16:42 #1675416LD73 a good ground Gold Cup would be a disaster for HMS Colombe
December 28, 2023 at 17:50 #1675423Was thinking more for the likes of Fastorslow (who came out today due to the ground), Shishkin & BMG etc.
Elliott said today’s ground was totally in his favour only for him to be on the receiving end of that shellacking…….maybe they need to be looking at the National Hunt Chase as an alternative to the GC

That’s a novice race so Gerri Colombe wouldn’t qualify. He’s a bit limited to where else he can go. Maybe Aintree would be his best chance with a view of Galopin and Fastorslow skipping it for Punchestown.
December 28, 2023 at 19:07 #1675436Completely slipped my mind he wasn’t qualified for that, so unless they go really left field and pick the Cross Country race, I guess they might try and convince themselves he underperformed today (unless something comes to light).
They may try again against GDC in the Irish Gold Cup in February and what happens there may dictate if they do go for the GC and Aintree Bowl or go straight to Aintree. I believe there is 27 days between the GC and the Bowl and even though Gerri did both meetings last year that was at novice level so whether they would want to do both this time is debateable.
Personally, I think he could be an Irish National horse but that is 1 April this year so would likely rule out a run at Aintree.
December 29, 2023 at 03:34 #1675490I’m not sure why many are suggesting that Gerri Colombe should look for an alternate race at Cheltenham, or skips the meeting altogether.
Galopin Des Champs is a firm favourite of mine and he was hugely impressive today, but even I know that you shouldn’t be frightened of one horse.
Besides, Cheltenham is a different playground, different pace, probably different ground and 2 furlongs extra with a stiff uphill finish.
It’s setting up to be a good race.
December 29, 2023 at 04:55 #1675491No need to fear GDC , Gerri was poor , that chelt form is now looking poor

If Fastorslow had won that by 23 lengths without GDC running I doubt you would’ve slagged off the opposition ;o)

I think he’s saying this with tongue in cheek of course, but a betfair chase + king george winner have come from the Gold Cup he’s talking about..
A Plus Tard has ran crap today but ran crap in the GC, so not really a surprise or any new evidence provided.
Conflated was in the process of running a decent enough race.
Gerri yep, wasn’t at his best, but 23l is 23l- he’s hammered them. He’s back to his best yesterday + that’s better than Fastorslow has ever ran to. 10pds if you believe the official handicapper. Or, in RPR terms, 8lbs.
Not even taking sides as i like fastorslow- love his trainer, what a trainer of a staying chaser he is. However, if you can’t look at things from an open eye + not always “take a side” like HDLG, then you’ll not be able to see why GDC is currently ahead of Fastorslow.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!December 29, 2023 at 10:12 #1675509Well, there wasn’t much arguing with THAT.
But I wouldn’t entirely dismiss the idea the Cheltenham Gold Cup can leave a mark, more lasting on some than others I’d say.
For me, this horse, not always the most fluent of jumpers, has taken the best part of a year to bounce back, ditto Bravemansgame who for me ran his best race since March at Kempton.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"December 29, 2023 at 11:02 #1675517Yes don’t believe it’s a gimme for GDC in March but he will certainly start fav. after that. GCs nearly always leave a mark and whether GDC has entirely got over his is a matter of opinion.
December 29, 2023 at 13:56 #1675554If we get a very soft ground Gold Cup then will Fastorslow even run as he was pulled out yesterday because of the ground?
For me GDC was feeling the effects of the Gold Cup in the Punchestown Gold Cup but to me he wasn’t as slick with his jumping in the John Durkan but I don’t think that was due to his Gold Cup efforts….if Gerri hadn’t been 2nd then you could argue he has underperformed but he had his ground yesterday (according to Elliott) but was comprehensible taken apart, his form with The Real Whacker and scrambling home against Envoi Allen was a long way short of Gold Cup form and it could be that this is as good as he is at this level.
They may have no option but to run in the GC but I couldn’t envisage him finishing in the first 3 or 4 – the Irish Gold Cup could end up being very informative if all three show up.
December 29, 2023 at 19:27 #1675608Factorslow has gears GDC can’t live with , he,s beaten GDC twice , still improving ..
