ID views should not even be on this board right now and to be honest the person putting them up is being pretty disrespectful to Daylight who did ban him.
July 16, 2006 at 19:39 #96271No disrepect to Daylight or LRM and family, but ther’s a lot of emotional crap being spewed into this debate
July 16, 2006 at 20:04 #96274Well said Sal.
The underhand method that Davies has been using to air his views on here are unfortunately typical of the man. Even someone as dull of mind as he should realise his presence in this debate, particularly the extraordinarily insensitive manner he has done so on this board (can you believe he’s done that!) and his crass comments are likely to be upsetting to LRM, given the circumstances behind his banning.
For the record can I just say that I hope whoever eventually takes over the day to day running doesn’t change too much as I think the forum works pretty well as it is. I would like to see the forum continue and, to that end, would offer whatever help I could to any new owner, although other committments, Ian, mean that it’s not something I could contemplate myself.
Mindful that a continuing Ian Davies slanging match is another thing that LRM won’t wish to see on the forum at this particular moment I’ll hold my tongue from here on in.
July 16, 2006 at 20:31 #96276I’m with Corm and Sal on this one, not because of any personal beef with the bard of Basingstoke but because I don’t feel that his stewardship would allow the freedom of expression vital to the forum’s health. He has commercial interests which in my view make his assurances of an altruistic non-profit approach to the project unlikely as could be seen from the manner of his departure. If LRM accepts his offer then fair enough, but I hope she gives preference to an existing unbanned member or members.

July 16, 2006 at 20:44 #96280If ID gets his ahnds on this forum it will be the beginning of the end. He is banned from here, banned from the the Betfair place and his ego is too big for this place.
July 16, 2006 at 20:48 #96281Does the sale/transfer of the forum and it’s user database contravene the site’s Privacy Policy? Would all users have to be asked if they wanted to remain a member in the event of a sale or transfer? I would have a problem (in principle only, to be honest) with my name and address being passed to an unknown, but from reading the Privacy Policy I’m not sure if this was ever guaranteed not to happen.
July 16, 2006 at 20:52 #96283Interesting post Gareth and i personally would not like my details handed over to just anyone
July 16, 2006 at 21:31 #96290Aiden beat me to the punch.
I’ve read this thread, and I find it incredibly distasteful that ID is in ‘stealth’, third party member mode on here, even though Daylight banned him. I have nothing against ID and have no reason to criticise him. However, Craig chose to ban Ian, and that ban should still apply until the point that LRM chooses whether (or not) to sell to him. If he want’s to buy, he should speak to LRM directly, via email.
As to the question as to whether ID should have the opportunity to buy the forum out, why not? Business is business, cold hard cash is cold hard cash and a buyer is a buyer. I think Craig would have realised that.
I think that the forum was one of Craig’s loves in life, and his selfless administration of the forum reflected that fact. It would be a fitting memorial to him if the forum were to continue in it’s present guise, no matter who is the owner. A forum is a collection of souls with similar interests. One man does not make a forum, even if he is Ian Davies. The forum, to me, will always be Daylight’s forum. If it takes ID to keep it going, then let’s let Debs make that decision for herself.

July 16, 2006 at 21:54 #96291I agree that a lot of this is unnecessary..
For me this forum keeps me entertained at work, makes me laugh and educates me. I hope it continues.
I think ethically there is something with the concept of a banned member running the site but ultimately i am all for progress.
Gareth, if there is a disclaimer as part of the reg process, I think under the DPA if the company was still TRF limited they’d be entitled to that data…
July 16, 2006 at 22:34 #96293SO IS THERE A CHANCE FOR YOU & I TO MAKE OUR PEACE EC
July 17, 2006 at 07:25 #96295it strikes me that the population of this forum are unable to agree on the time of day! maybe best to just let the forum run its course and finish at the end of a month.
July 17, 2006 at 10:25 #96297I tend to think everyone’s overlooking a very sad truth.
The forum will never be the same. In reality it cannot be saved in its present guise, no matter how hard we try.
That in a way is Craig’s legacy. The forum was a reflection of his own character. It reverberated with his own passion, and of course he ran an infamously tight ship. It was the latter in particular that distinguished this forum from all the others out there.
As for Ian. For a while he almost took the place over, and stamped his own personality on the place, posting incessantly on every thread like a fat toad. It wasn’t my own favourite period for the forum, though plenty of newer members were big fans of the Basingstoke bore.
TDK, I wholeheartedly agree that it would be great to keep the place running, and as close to the spirit of the original as possible, and I’d be happy to do my bit to help, but let’s not kid ourselves.
July 17, 2006 at 11:14 #96303I really cant believe that some of you have turned this whole thread into a slagging off ID event, instead of thinking about LRM and what is best for her.
.. you really are a load of sad fu**wits, who are unable to distinguish real life from what happens on a message board.
July 17, 2006 at 11:24 #96305I’m leaning towards the opinion that the new owner does matter, with regard to the future of this forum. It would appear that the ‘handing over of the reigns’ to certain individuals would strongly offend current forumites.
Tooting does make a very valid point, for me this forum has had an empty feel to it since Craig tragically passed away. I would love for the forum to carry on the legacy of Daylight but feel it could be very difficult to achieve.
Off direct topic (Sorry) – I am also saddened by the fact a banned member is able to post his/her opinions on this forum, let alone this thread regardless of the fact whether he/she feels this group ‘need’ to know any historical events. I find it disrespectful and feel it should be met with disapproval.
I have no issues with certain usernames, my feelings would be the same for any person who has had their access intentionally removed from this forum.

There’s a ‘some’ missing out of there, Ken!

July 17, 2006 at 11:47 #96316I don’t have the money, time or expertise to help save TRF and as such, I am not in a position to pontificate on whether anyone else is fit to run it. Seems to me that Ian has done nothing more than be open and honest about his offer. Nothing wrong with that.
I have no interest in who has said what to whom and who started it – reading the minutaie of other people’s adolescent squabbles is tedious beyond belief.
Since I have joined TRF, I have felt no need to join any other forum, since none of them came close. It was brilliantly run and moderated and I just hope whoever takes it over can come somewhere near to doing as good a job as Daylight.
July 17, 2006 at 11:50 #96319Dave, I do agree with your earlier comment (we posted simultaneously) about it being up to LRM, and that the forum as a whole should support whatever she decides is best. You are completely right that she should not have to consider anyone else’s feelings in this matter.
However, I find Ian’s offer to ‘save’ TRF tasteless, considering that the episode over his banning was the closest this site has come to ceasing. He made Craig sick to the point that he seriously thought about shutting the whole thing down. To suggest that he is being considerate by making LRM an offer – where was his consideration to her feelings when he was picking fights, bad-mouthing Craig and making her cry? His concern for the future of TRF was not so apparant when driving away forumites, upsetting sponsors by flouting spamming rules and deliberately and continuously placing the site open to lawsuits.
Please, Rich and all the other lovely people with technical know-how, email LRM with your rescue plans. She hasn’t been able to visit the forum much, so email is far better that making her wade through this thread.
