. . at Hereford.
Is this a sign he will replace Mr Walsh?
November 7, 2010 at 12:51 #326821Well Harry Skelton has pretty much been second jockey for Nicholls this year and would almost certainly have been in line for almost all Ruby’s rides, although I suspect he would have used the likes of AP if available for the big guns (Kauto, Masterminded etc). Obviously with Harry taking a nasty fall yesterday (anybody know the extent of his injury?), I imagine Nicholls will just use the best available for the time being. I would have thought Thomas will be in line for the ride on Denman in the Hennessy and the likes of AP and Fehily will be getting plenty of rides on the better horses.

Thomas rode for Nicholls at Sandown yesterday
Skelton broke his collarbone yesterday
November 8, 2010 at 11:12 #326952Suspect Ian Popham won’t have done himself any harm where getting a few more leg-ups on Ditcheat inmates is concerned with his winning ride on Meanus Dandy in the Badger on Saturday.
Ryan Mahon is also still available (less so during the pointing season, perhaps), and like Popham gives Paul Nicholls the claiming rider option if he wants to take it.
Can’t imagine either would be first in line for any of the trainer’s Premier League mounts even in the prevailing circumstances, though – rather suspect that procuring any of AP McCoy, Christian Williams, Daryl Jacob and Sam Thomas as and when available is the likelier way he’ll play it.
Mind, isn’t Denis O’Regan currently both freelance and based further down south than hitherto?

November 8, 2010 at 12:54 #326978Well at Exeter tomorrow, he’s booked Noel Fehily for two chsers and Nick Schofield for a novice hurdler, even though AP and Sam Thomas are at the meeting.
One of the chasers is ex Charlie Mann, so it makes sense to put Fehily on that one.
Sam Thomas has been booked to replace Jack Doyle for his only ride of the day.

So Sam Thomas is riding Denman! I must amdmit I’m surprised and pleased for him at the same time.
November 8, 2010 at 13:45 #326984On the sporting life today seems pretty cut and dried to me that S Thomas will be on Denman. Paul Barber says that he expects AP will have a ride for JP. though funnily enough in older news says JP is unlikely to have a runner.
Funny old game…if they dont want AP to ride Denman just say

They should let him know and probably have in private, even though it wasn’t an ongoing deal he ride Denman.
I hope Thomas does o.k on him, cause even when you’ve won the gold cup, finished a good second considering problems the next year, nearly beat the horse when switched to What A Friend, a few mistakes and everyone forgets all that.
November 8, 2010 at 14:49 #326995Perhaps they’re keeping AP free for the leg up on Kauto

Probably expecting AP to be riding Binocular in the Fighting Fith at Newcastle on the same day.
November 8, 2010 at 21:44 #327070Confirmed that Sam Thomas will be reunited with Denman in the Hennessy, well done to the lad.
