I’ve seen this sort of thing in the conditions for novice chases, but this is the first time I’ve found it in the conditions for a flat race. The race is the 1M 6F Persian Punch Conditions Stakes:

“Note: Excluding the winner, the Official BHA Rating of any horse taking part in this race will not be increased due to performance in this race, providing the horse has had at least three prior completed runs”

Presumably an attempt to attract more runners for a race that has rarely had more than four runners in recent seasons.

Does it mean 3 previous runs on the flat or jumps as well? I would have thought just flat but it doesn’t specify.
If just flat, CH handicap could have been affected if he had run at Salisbury instead of Kempton.
I see they’ve ended up with 5 runners, maybe they need to increase the prize money a bit. 10 grand to the winner for horses rated around 110 is a poor return.

I reckon the real problem with this race is the competition for runners. Doncaster have the Mallard Handicap (£70k) over the Leger trip on Sunday, Chester have two races on Saturday, a Listed race over 1M 4 1/2F and a £100k handicap over 2M.

Not to mention the Park Hill Stakes, the Doncaster Cup and the St Leger at Doncaster.

It’s the equivalent of running a 3M conditions chase at Huntingdon during the Cheltenham Festival!
