I see Saif Sareea makes his chase debut tomorrow and i was wandering DJ if you think he is a chasing type and will he be as good over fences? I don’t think Rose is the best idea if he takes off in front and attacks his fences like he did on the flat, as it usually takes a strong jock to stay on top.

May 31, 2007 at 08:01 #62766Wishing Rose and Nicky Richards every success tonight. Personally I do think he’ll take to fences. He was as a fluent a jumper of hurdles as you’ll see at his level. Without doubt, my favourite moment with him was when he absolutely flew the second last in the Swinton last year when Padge asked him for a big one. I also like free-going sorts over hurdles when they go over fences.
Sedgefield doesn’t take all that much jumping and the opposition doesn’t look up to the same calibre he’s been taking on in handicap hurdles so I’ll be a bit disappointed if he doesn’t win.
May 31, 2007 at 11:10 #62769Not the most obvious time of year to start a good quality horse in 2m-2m2f novices’ chases, though, is it, for all that Saif Sareea is okay on a dry surface?
With few, if any, big targets to aim at over that distance over the summer period, and with him not exactly screaming out as a Summer Plate aspirant with stamina to prove over 2m6.5f, the best he could do is load himself with a double win penalty before the obligatory move into better company (and against likely better rivals) come the autumn.
For all that I’d agree with David on why Saif Sareea should take to fences, I’d still sooner his powder had been kept dry over them until September or October in all honesty.

May 31, 2007 at 13:00 #62770Let’s hope he’s not upsides going over the last. I don’t think Rose Davidson will win any prizes for her ability to ride a finish; and that’s not being unkind to her, I just don’t think she’s particularly strong.

I don’t know what the plan with the horse is, but he’s not very big and I certainly wouldn’t want to see him running around the likes of Aintree and Haydock in the autumn. We contemplated keeping him and sending him novice chasing, but the plan would have been to stick to tracks like Sedgefield, Hexham et al, and then probably handicaps rather than over facing him. Hopefully present connections will do the same.
Regarding his ground, I also think that the faster the ground the better for him.
May 31, 2007 at 17:36 #62774Dunno what to make of that run, i do tend to forgive a horse his first run over fences but u may have done a decent bit of business DJ.
