Whilst both Allaho and Stage Star tend to make the running, I don’t think either needs to lead. I could see Harry Cobden quite happily taking a lead from Allaho.
November 19, 2023 at 13:41 #1671035I’m with FF this maybe a race to be looking for a hold up horse to attack late
November 19, 2023 at 14:01 #1671040We don’t know if Allaho has the same cruising speed as 2 years ago. There must be a doubt about that being 10 next March and having a year off through injury/setback. These stars all have a shelf life they can’t be the same forever.
December 21, 2023 at 03:50 #1674502Fugitif Il Ridoto 1,2 at the weekend franked the Stage Star form who thrashed them last month.
Stage Star running in a Cheltenham handicap next on New Years day probably off top weight.
December 26, 2023 at 18:35 #1675080Thought allaho ran pretty well today
Didn’t advance his claims but didn’t harm them
Considering it was his first proper race for 18 months and Paul didn’t let him bowl along as he needs to to be at his best
He’s usually 10lbs better in the spring
December 26, 2023 at 19:40 #1675092He showed he’s in the mix still at this sort of level which would be a positive but I’m not sure personally there’s 10lbs more to come this spring at the age of 10. Maybe what he showed today would be enough, maybe he’s vulnerable to younger legs. Stage Star still needs to come up to that level to be fair he’s won well at the festival and the handicap this year but he’s beat the same horse both times who would be 50/1+ in a Ryanair, I know the forms worked out behind them but at a handicap level not graded. Now in fairness he’s going the right way and he won easily but I don’t think he’s beaten a top class horse on merit over fences yet, Mighty Potter (RIP) didn’t show up at the festival and Gino won the Hennessy but he’s a stayer, he got beat loads of times at the intermediate trip.

Allaho had beaten Milan Native and Elimay in chases, and was getting well beat in grade 1s the season he won his first Ryanair. He then kicked on. Stage Star at least is a Grade 1 Cheltenham Festival winner which Allaho hadn’t managed.
December 27, 2023 at 09:27 #1675136The RSA allaho came 3rd in was a significantly better race than the one that stage star won
Be interesting to see how stage star gets on off 166 in the handicap, though it doesn’t look a strong race

Just topped up Banbridge to 25’s, though I’m aware that’s not without its risks, with him not seen yet this year, and with every chance he won’t get his ground. He’s as good as most of these, so really have to take that 25’s
Others I like include, Capodanno, Janidil, and Jungle Boogie, but I’ll see how it goes with NRNB when it’s introduced
Banbridge 25’s
January 2, 2024 at 22:57 #1676129VTC Banbridge 10/1 for Ryanair with hills NR NO BET they started there’s Jan 1st if your interested
January 3, 2024 at 01:30 #1676137Thanks mate, much appreciated, no sure how I missed that
Jungle Boogie 25’s NRNB very appealing
January 3, 2024 at 05:10 #1676140I wouldn’t be scared of either Allaho or Stage Star , if they both run is be looking for something to pick them off , I would discount Envoi again
January 3, 2024 at 14:38 #1676163The 25/1 against Banbridge is huge and I have taken it.
OK, it has been a very wet winter and there is a chance he may not get his ground – but that doubt is factored into the price. And as we all know, Cheltenham can dry out very quickly nowadays.
As long as it is no worse than good to soft, I think he will run and is a massive player at that price, especially as the horses at the head of the market have questions to answer. Why should Banbridge be four times the price of Stage Star when he beat him at Aintree?

Banbridge skipped Cheltenham. Stage Star ran flat after Cheltenham.
January 3, 2024 at 16:03 #1676174That would justify them being a similar price, Mike. Not four times the price.
January 4, 2024 at 20:58 #1676245Well my two early fancies, Bronn and Saint Sam, didn’t even get an entry. I don’t think they were dreadful bets but both horses were a bit unfortunate. Hope Saint Sam is OK- I assumed he was just having a nice break after his fall, but thought he would have had speculative entry if all was well. I really have a soft spot for him so fingers crossed.
Going to throw another fistful of shekels at it, even though it might be a strong enough race if El Fab, Jonbon and GDC put up more good performances before March and funnel more horses this way. My two ew hopefuls are
Classic Getaway (surprise!) 33-1
tongue tie and spring ground might help
Hitman (don’t laugh) 80-1
woeful run in the Old Roan but wasn’t quite as bad as it looked with several fences taken out, and he was looked after when beaten. Ran well here last year and I expect he’ll be nursed carefully for the big day. Nicholls could do with another dart, just in case. Get Bryony on him!January 9, 2024 at 12:47 #1676734Banbridge entered at Kempton on Saturday.
