He is obviously the best around right now or why else would the top connections clamour for his services and I rather like his attitude and reluctance to be heralded, it is refreshing in this era of so many sport stars who really believe the hype given to them by the media.

Agree. Comparing generations is always a pointless exercise. As for “boring” though. I find his obvious irritation at the banal and predictable questions highly entertaining!

I like Moore’s character. He seems to have a keen ear for bullsh*t and refuses to be drawn into the nonsense conversations that the racing media like to engineer. Quite rightly (imo), he gives one-word answers to daft questions. He also comes across as a very good judge of a horse’s place in the greatness stakes. He knows Gleneagles isn’t Frankel or Rock Of Gibraltar, so he won’t make any silly proclamations – he’ll just recount how he rode his race and answer with a level head.

I like his McCoy-esque self-criticism too. Moore knows he has been boxed in several times this week and probably feels a little regret that he is not threatening Fred Archer’s record, even though he has the modern day one in the bag. It’s that sort of professionalism that got Moore where he is already and might make him even better by his mid-thirties.

He is the best around at the minute but to say he is the best ever is SERIOUSLY stretching it IMO.

In my opinion Eddery is the best that I have ever seen. Piggott also right up there.
Always difficult comparing different generations, just like the horses.
Eddery holds the all time Royal Ascot record when there were many less races, and during a golden era of jockeyship.

No, the correct answer is Lester – the rest are merely riding for the places!

I agree with Drofatts. Would the best jockey in the world have lost on Sir Isaac Newton and Kingfisher? It’s no good just looking at his winning rides. You have to look at his losing rides as well!!

I think each generation of sportsmen is better than its predecessor.

This cannot be disputed in track athletics where it can be measured but in sports like football and racing debates linger on.

Piggott was the greatest ever….until Cauthen brought riding with a clock in your head over from the USA and regularly made the English jockeys at the time look stupid.

Since him Dettori, Hughes and now Moore look the best to me.

McCoy, as stated above, was from a different sport – stronger than Jonjo O’Neill ever was in a finish and every bit as good as Francome at presenting a horse at an obstacle.
