Do you guys have the same providers as RUK ?
They’ve had problems for about a week. They seem to be database and cache problems going by the various error messages that popped up.
Anyway i had trouble logging in here today at the same time. Then simultaneously i was able to login in here and view a race replay on RUK. I was just about to post on here when this site gave me a Mysql error…then the RUK site gave me a 503 error.
Anyway…
This site is free and i’m very thankful for the effort and service you provide. RUK however are a joke. Their customer service is appalling and the Twitter account is for PR purposes only.
Frustrating when there’s some good racing with a busy weekend ahead
November 1, 2013 at 18:25 #456911The RacingUK server is down, I have had intermittent problems connecting to this forum for the past few days
November 1, 2013 at 18:28 #456912RUK’s providers just sent them a tweet asking for their account number !!!!
November 1, 2013 at 20:34 #456937RUK have been appalling. No emails to customers just a couple of tweets. Are they going to compensate subscribers who have been without a service for a week ? Don’t know because you can’t even get a reply from them.
November 1, 2013 at 20:36 #456939I also had trouble getting on here at different times today Mark. Site running fine for me now though.

Aaaaaannnddd site been down for the past two hours…
November 2, 2013 at 00:45 #456972I think the plug might be pulled on this site soon, we never had all this downtime when Craig was the man.
Corm, have you thought about putting a paypal link up to donate to this site? – This is what keeps the Kate Bush forum going… and their clock is never wrong
November 3, 2013 at 14:24 #457204RUK and TRF!!! The truth is out, it’s a conspiracy!!
Firstly, very very sorry for the outages. We use a relatively expensive server solution and it is poor. Looking into changing but it is a real PAIN to port everything over. Will continue to examine it though.
Secondly, despite the perennial digs by people who I reckon would love to see us fail, things are fine with TRF and there are ABSOLUTELY no plans to ‘pull the plug’. Ffs Mr Pilsen, you could try being a bit supportive once in a while, along with a few others.
Sorry for the rant. Feel better now.
November 3, 2013 at 20:31 #457231Corm, I suggested putting a paypal link on here so that people could, if they wished, donate to keep the site running smoothly. I would chuck a tenner in now and then. So I’d say that I was being supportive.
This site never used to have downtime but now has more than any site that I know so thought you may be struggling. Having so many bouts of downtime is the one thing that will drive people away, Imho.
November 3, 2013 at 20:49 #457232Yes, I agree Mr P, I’m not sure what causes it (the downtime) – we host on a fairly expensive package with Amazon but their customer service is lamentable and we never seem to find out why the outages occur. We seldom had any downtime until the last year or so and it, for want of a better phrase, does my head in.
I did see that you’d suggested paypal donations – I’m not sure that would be supported widely and I kind of like the idea of the site being completely free, and of being totally independent. I mean what if someone made a big donation and then needed booting? Would I be totally objective in that instance?
Apologies for reacting to your post, I took umbrage at the speculative (and very wide of the mark) suggestion that we were considering pulling the plug. Nothing could be further from my mind.
November 3, 2013 at 23:32 #457253This is a brillant website despite irritations regarding speed and connection at times and I appreciate the efforts of Corm and others in keeping it going.
I sent an email to RUK and did get a reply which indicated the issue of compensation to subscribers was being discussed. However I am not holding my breath!

Seconded.
November 4, 2013 at 07:17 #457264David, I would seriously consider moving "hosting".
I think I recommended an excellent UK company to you before?
It really is unacceptable service from Amazon.
November 4, 2013 at 18:54 #457314Thanks for those kind words SP and THM.
Matron, you did indeed and I think now is the time to act.
November 4, 2013 at 20:29 #457326A wise decision I think
