I’m not on Betfair I don’t lay horses but I’d make Long Run at least a 100-6 shot for the RSA. Based on the fact that I can’t see any reason for him to be a shorter price than Weird Al for instance.
I think he’d be much better advised to get a couple more runs under his belt and go to Aintree or Punchestown, and get a proper jockey on board

I just find it strange that you cite Pandorama’s race record yet slate Long Run (who’s got a far better record both in terms of hurdles form and his races over fences IMO).

Pandorama is an admirable horse and will arguably be better on the better ground but IMO he’ll lack the class for a RSA Chase.

Weird Al would be the one for me each-way – outside of Long Run that is. Can’t have Diamond Harry with his massive lack of experience despite him having a top trainer, the Nicholls horse (Gullible Gordon) is there by default, Knockara Beau is already held on form by Weird Al whilst On Raglan Road shapes like the next Royal Rosa to me – good horse but a 160 rating at best.

Long Run’s form has a very solid look to it with some top hurdlers and chasers in behind from his French runs whilst he was impressive if a sketchy jumper on his UK debut.

I too would prefer a pro jockey (preferably Barry Gerraghty or his old jockey David Cottin) but the jockey situation is something I’ve had 18 months to accept is going to happen so no point in hoping now.

I have backed both Pandorama and Weapon’s Amnesty for the RSA, and feel both will be bang there at the finish, but I’d be worried about Lon Run. The fact of the matter is he is unexposed against the rest of the field and nobody really knows what he’ll do. He looks to have massive potential in fairness, bu if it becomes a gruelling dog fight I’d rather have Pandorama or Weapon’s Amnesty on my isde tan anything else in the field.

    Martin,

I’ve not slated Long Run’s record, 9 wins 13 starts, not quite as good as Pandorama 8 wins 9 starts but very good.
I just can’t see him get round Cheltenham fault free against the likely field and even if he does he’s got to see out the uphill finish against some dour battlers.
Knockara Beau isn’t strictly held by Weird Al, on the bare the form should be reversed at the RSA weights.

Not to forget that Long Run’s owners son WILL be on board

Good luck with your bet though as I probably will give the race a miss betting wise as I can’t narrow it down below three or four with any confidence and it’s not been the kindest race to me over the years (Denman apart) Nick Dundee was one of my biggest ever Festival losers

Long Run is an extremely exciting prospect who should avoid Cheltenham this year and thats coming from the first person on here to back him for the RSA  I have watched his attempt at getting round Kempton several times now and its not pretty! Not only does he need to learn to jump our big fences,he needs to learn to settle in between jumping! Some engine though,he reminds me of a Rolls Royce with a Bugatti Veyrons engine shoved under the bonnet! :o

I wasn’t sure about this horse and what his form amounted to before the Feltham but i’m converted. His jumping is a bit iffy but he had so much left in the tank that he has to be considered high class and a genuine contender.

I think Henderson fancies him to turn Punchestowns over…

Good point mate. An Siorrac could beat Long Rung in the 2012 GC…..if he gets a 3 furlong head start :|

"…Cheltenham should have better ground than that at Leopardstown yesterday and i would confidently bet that Weapons Amnesty will beat Pandorama in the RSA! Davy Russell seriously over did the waiting tactics yesterday and was basically beaten by the ground!Oh yes if Mikael fails to get to Cheltenham this year,i can see myself recovering my losses with interest on this fellow!Long Run is still too novicey! Weird Al would be a danger to all as he is a very lightly raced but fast improving sort!…"

Ignoring the fact that Martin and Grass’ were probably way ahead of you, they don’t sound like the words of the ‘first person to back Long Run’, TAPK.

I still really like Apt Approach and have done for a good 10 months. I’ve got about £14 on him between 55s and 120s and I’m very hopeful of a big run tomorrow. Mullins knows what he’s doing when it comes to the Neptune and R&SA. I couldn’t be backing Punchestowns at that price given he’s had just one start.

Long Run or Punchestowns for me,cant see much past them, Tazbar could be a nice outside shot should he run and might be worth an each way bet. I really liked Ogee last year but I’d need to see another run before deciding on him, If Bensalem runs well tomorrow and should he run here might be worth an e/w punt. Mikael D’Haguenet and Pandorama I think will run elsewhere but should any run ill have a bit on them too. [/color:1qg50bv1]

The plan is for Pandorama to come straight to the RSA Kez.

Might be a huge race that one then..Think ill stick with Tazbar e/w and the Long Run/Pandorama/Mikael D’Haguenet if Mikael runs.
