    Excellent performance from Punchestowns.

Not sure what else he had to do there, he won pretty much on the bridle, made a bad blunder, went plenty of lengths down, yet still won in facile fashion.

Excellent performance and will take all the beating at Cheltenham. Worthy favourite for the RSA in my opinion.

With The Festival in mind I’d say

    WEIRD AL

was by far the most impressive winner of the day.

    Weird Al, now there’s a horse…

    Good for Diamond Harry.

Weird Al and Tazbar looked the best jumping performances of the day.
Punchestowns was good, but Weird Al jumps with such ease.

Wierd Al is a really solid citizen and is better than a good many winners of the RSA in my view.
This looks a far better than average year though…I don’t personally think Punchestowns enhanced his credentials today but in Long Run and Pandorama there are two monsters in his path.

I would agree Weird Al is solid but is that good enough to win at the Festival? I suspect he will need to find at least 10lbs on what he has shown so far. Knockara Beau hurdles his fences and his jockey is not the best so he probably isn’t the best yardstick.

The big tick in the box Weird Al has,is his superior jumping ability, particularly around Cheltenham and the fact he stays well,he is beginning to look like a serious horse, any ground suits,he is defineately one to have on your side!

    I’m another Weird Al fan

3/1 to be placed (12’s ew) is far better value than Punchestowns at 7/2 outright

Has got course form, jumps brilliantly, stays and overpriced due to not being trained by one of the major players

My bet of the festival so far

He’s not 3/1 to be placed really.

    EG:

    £10e/w @ 12/1

    1/4 of 12=3

    £10 * 3= £30

    + your £10 back = £40.

Therefore you put £20 down and will get £40 back if he places, therefore EVEN MONEY to place.

    I do get it Thehorsesmouth

You also haven’t mentioned the 12/1 win part…

But to be honest, I was only trying to highlight that I reckon Weird Al is far better value than Punchestowns

Whats p*****g me off more than anything is the fact that no matter what form lines you analyse,EVERYTHING points to MIKAEL winning the RSA!!!!!!!

    Agreed.

I like to see a novice smack the odd obstacle before March and he will definitely benefit from that mistake.

Punchestowns had a habit of disrespecting his hurdles, but that blunder will ensure that he treats the bigger obstacles with plenty of respect.

He gave the following fences plenty of daylight after the mistake – a sure sign he learned his leason. After his confidence was restored – huge credit to Barry for not panicking – he got back into a nice rhythm and won very easily.

I was very taken by that effort and he deserves to be favourite for the race – he has a real touch of class about him.

I still like Pandorama at a big price – a totally different type of horse, but one that will not wilt in a fight and jumps soundly enough.

Sorry I was just saying if he comes 2nd or 3rd he will pay evens if you have backed him e/w.

I agree that at the prices he is better value than Punchestowns.

    You’re kidding, Gord, right?

I don’t know where the idea that Punchestowns was unimpressive comes from. He has ultimately bolted-up, from a decent novice, over too short a trip, after making an error that would put 95% of horses on the deck.

I think he is stuck-on for the RSA Chase myself.
