Well thats it so. This could get very expensive studying 20 runner handicaps. The good news is they give you five quids worth of credit to get you used to handing over the dosh.

July 25, 2006 at 22:55 #74099I dont know about you but what a complete waste of money and time. Anyone who has the time to sit down and watch repeats of races wants taken out and stabbed.
July 25, 2006 at 23:13 #74100lol…… A nice view point Dave…..
On a serious note though – for me, it has been the single most thing this season that has improved my punting. Due to work commitments I don’t have time to watch as much racing live as I’d like. The ATTHERACES web-site led the way…and with the RP following suit – for even a small fee ( ) it has ruled out some losers for me and included some good winners….

Well you’ll have to stab me first then. I find it extremely useful for studying 2yo form when compiling ratings.

I won’t even bother using the fiver if I have to use it all up ASAP. For that matter, I have not used the video service even while it was free. I certainly wouldn’t pay for it unless I could d/l it to my HD for viewing as many times as I like, or for archival purposes. Rip off IMO.
July 26, 2006 at 01:50 #74103Rip off, lol.
July 26, 2006 at 02:13 #74104Didn’t use it much when it were free, but got to agree with RD, the RP and RUK are just taking the p**s
with 20p a race and as Sir Harry says, it could turn into a very expensive toolJuly 26, 2006 at 07:12 #74105tool being the operative word, imo. not so sure about jocular references to stabbing these days but maybe i’ve just had a bad attack of early-morning new labour pc-liberality, or whatever
July 26, 2006 at 08:45 #74106This is a spectacularly stupid decision by someone at Trinity Mirror, borne entirely of short-sighted greed. A great innovation is about to be kebabbed by a moronic, unworkable pricing structure. There really are some incredibly thick people in senior positions there, and I’m fairly sure I can guess who is responsible for this particular idea.
Every lesson about the internet, and doing business on the internet, has been ignored. People are not going to pay per race, simple as that. A (small) flat fee for unlimited access to the database is the only feasible way to charge for this in the long term, and it beggars belief that there are people in positions of influence at TM who think otherwise.
July 26, 2006 at 08:51 #74107The plan to charge was made clear from the very beginning. They have a very powerful tool – one which people will pay for. Considering they charge for downloading racecards etc…. It’s no surprise they will charge for this. I don’t know what the connection is between Trinity Mirror and Racing Uk, but I assume they are being charged a certain amount for relaying the pictures to users.
I would prefer a yearly subscription – but alas – the sharing of usernames could lead to collusion. Charging per-view is probably the only answer viable..

Per race is a RIP OFF simple, looking at one race per horse does not tell it’s life story
Say you wanted to look at all the horses last 3 runs in for 20 runner race
If my maths is correct, thats £12 for just one race, 4 Saturday handicaps £48, as stated a RIP OFF

July 26, 2006 at 09:17 #74109The RP (Trininty Mirror) and to a lesser extext RUK should be feckin ashamed of themselves
July 26, 2006 at 09:33 #74110There really should be some kind of flat-rate fee option, as well as a large discount for RUK subscribers – without them, I think it’s fair to say, these video archives wouldn’t exist in the first place.
July 26, 2006 at 11:15 #74111This is the same as the PDF files you can download from the RP site at a cost of 20p a shot. PDF files are no use to anybody and unless you know how to convert these to excel your effectively buying an electronic picture, that you would have to type up manually.
Does anyone know where you can download race declarations and full results from ?? Or might that be remotely handy and not be available at any price ?

I don’t understand how a flat-rate fee can lead to "collusion", unless the Post’s servers are incapable of stopping two people logging on under the same ID at the same time. Poker sites seem to have no problem doing this, so I can’t imagine it’s all that difficult.
Yes, and you have a ‘hard copy’ of those pdf items to use however you feel fit. I simply wouldn’t pay for something that never ends up being mine to do with as I please.
I can archive Sky programs, I can archive my MP3s from iTunes (albeit heavily DRM’d, but they are still mine to do with as I reasonably please) and I can archive my electronic copies of the RP newspaper. This is nothing short of opportunist greed IMO.
August 18, 2006 at 09:30 #2891Haven’t used the Racing Post website in a while. Was looking through the colour card for Newbury, and noticed next to the trainer and jockey details a new figure, a percentage number next to each, which is listed as the RTF %.
WTF is the RTF %?
I’m sure it’s something obvious, and I’ll probably look a fool when somebody tells me what it is, but I’ve just woke up after a few too many last night – so that’s my excuse
Any clarification would be appreciated.
