You are a prize prat – this is the last time I’m responding to one of your posts, and I hope you are banned shortly.

People like him do not bother me, as I find them funny
The only person who would have known that I am Dave Edwards Gardener is our old forum mate Mr Wilson or Delroy or whatever other names he was posting under.
September 3, 2012 at 16:57 #411898Here is an example how I rated the 2yo "Dawn Approach" over 5f at the Curragh on Sunday 25th March.
One thing to note is that I do not use Weight For Age in my calcuations, you can if you want.
1. The going time for the race was 6.93 secs above standard.
2. The going allowance was -0.9 secs per furlong (the yeiding going was slowing the horses down).
3. I use .2 secs per length. Now for the calculation:
multiply 5 furlongs by the going allowance i.e. -0.9
5 x -0.9 = -4.50 secs
As the race was run 6.93 secs outside standard subtract the updated going allowance corection i.e -4.50. (note that if the going allwance was + 4.50 secs you have to add the going correction)
6.93-4.50 = 2.43 secs.
Now divide the corrected going allowance of 2.43 by .2 secs per length.
2.43 /.2 = 12.15 lengths.
multipy the lengths by the lbs.per length calculation which is 3.37 lbs per length for 5f trip at the Curragh.
12.15 x 3.37 = 40.94
now subtract the figure 40.94 from 100.
100-40.94 = 59.06 or rounded down 59.
As Dawn Approach carried 9st 5lb we now have to adjust the speed figure of 59.
For weight carried over 9st adjust the figure for the rating i.e.59 + 5lb = 64 ( this is Dawn Approach speed figure).
So if Dawn Approach had carried 8-11 we would have had to subtract 3lb from his speed figure i.e.
59 – 3lbs = 56.
Once you have arrived at any horses speed figure you could add the Weight for age allowance but I don’t because it corrupts the ratings.
Speed ratings are very simple to work out
Hi guys
I am new in here and would like to thank TBB for all the work that has been put into this thread. I have been following for a while and recently took up the task of trying to compile my own speed figures, but I have a problem understanding how to work out the rating, using the data and maths above, but for a GA of +0.9S/f.
If I follow all the steps I end up with a rating of -92.5 before adjusting for the weight carried. Is it my bad maths or do I need to do something different?
thanks in advance
Gus
October 31, 2012 at 07:11 #418746Hi blues
Just looking at how you rated Dawn Approach speed figure, and I see for weight carried you use 9st to make the adjustment, can you tell what weight you use over the jumps.
Thanks
October 31, 2012 at 07:56 #418747Hi blues

ThanksI don’t bother with the jumps, but if I did, it would be the same as Dave Edwards "Top Speed".
For example:
On the flat a horse carrying
9-0
and clocking standard time, an assuming a nil going allowance, is worth a speed rating of
100
.
On the jumps a horse carrying
11-7
and clocking standard time under ideal conditions i.e. nil going allowance, will have a speed rating of
135
.
October 31, 2012 at 17:03 #418772Thanks Bluesbrother
I was wondering if you could now help with giving each horse in a race a class rating to be used with the spped rating.
I have heard of using prize money with races run, which I dont think really works. I have searched the net in hoping to find a method but most are the prixe money idea.
Do you give horses class ratings or do you know of a method i could use apart from the one above.kind regards
October 31, 2012 at 17:53 #418779This is my class par table:
My class pars:
G1-120
G2-
113
G3-
109
LST-
104
C2-
92
C3-
86
C4-

C5-

C6-

C7-

How about using
Vlookup
in excel and refer to this table, this would give you a class rating for each speed figure
October 31, 2012 at 19:35 #418788Hi Bluesbrother………..
I note from your post above that you use 9 stone for weight adjustments on the Flat
I use 10 stone because it’s easier as so very few horses ever carry more than 10 stone – you’re always deducting when compiling ratings and adding when rating a future race
I don’t suppose it makes much difference but it might be another factor as to why our ratings come out different………

Your welcome
I was thinking of ways to use the racecourse class pars.
Cue Card
ran at Exeter on 6th Nov and his official mark was
157
and as the class par for Exeter is
105
.
157-105=
+52
Silviniaco Conti
ran in the Charlie Hall chase at Wetherby on the 3rd Nov and his official mark was
156
and the class par for Wetherby is
109
.
156-109=
+47
The official handicapper says there is only
1lb
between them, the class pars says it is
5lb
.
As the median for the racecourse class pars is
105
you would end up with the following class ratings.
Cue Card
157
Silviniaco Conti
152
Just food for thought

Makes perfect sense, absolutely right up there with the best of your ideas.
November 10, 2012 at 00:59 #419561Have you used the Turf Club Ireland ratings here for the Irish courses, NH and Flat (earlier posting) as there are no BHA rating figures for Irish races?

OK you win, I will now use the term
OR
(official rating) so you don’t have to keep nit picking on any of my posts
