Fantastic race. Aidan O’Brien is a genius.
Please explain that – how? silly comment
Extremely silly comment. The way Aidan does it year in, year out always has his horses ready and every detail tactically is never left uncovered.
Just a run of the mill trainer.
He may have the ammunition but boy does he get the best out of them.
Rubbish, any fool could do it if they had the horses O’Brien has
June 19, 2008 at 16:08 #169307Great to see Yeats win (especially at that price), and even better to see Geordieland running like he actually wants to.
June 19, 2008 at 16:10 #169308Weve been through this before
Big difference between a very fine trainer and a "genius"
Funny how the possibly even more successful (in his field) Nichols doesnt get labeled with these silly tags. Image (and the very likeable doesnt cultivate his Harry Potterish demeanor im sure) is a big factor
Some of the schoolboy (nationlistic?) fawning over him on here is a bit embarrasing at times

Big Mac was doing his nut on Shane Kelly, thought Gerodieland came to challange to early, but even if perfectly timed he still would not have won IMO, Best horse won again
June 19, 2008 at 16:18 #169310I was slightly suprised to see how early Geordieland was off the bridle, but to be fair to him, he knuckled down to the task.
I dont think it was a fact of the horse shying away, more of a fact that Yeats is the better horse, and proved so.

June 19, 2008 at 16:32 #169314Kelly is blameless. Yeats was beginning to get away from Geordieland: so Kelly could either sit there, lobbing along, and watch (and look stupid) or push him along and go for it (which obviously wouldn’t work, with Geordieland being the way he is, but at-least conveys his desperation to win)
June 19, 2008 at 16:34 #169316i agree, you dont want to leave it to late against a horse like Yeats.
Did anyone see when Yeats kicked Regal Flush?June 19, 2008 at 16:37 #169317Weve been through this before

Exactly. In an era of very limited quality staying horses, it’s not the achievement it once may have been.
Aidan O’Brien is a very good horseman, but far, far from a genius.
JohnJJJ – what are you on about?!
June 19, 2008 at 16:42 #169319Everything was in Yeats’ favour, and looked a penalty kick before the race – and thus it proved. How anyone could think that the French colt could beat him over course and distance is beyond me.
Great week for the O’Brien team … and me ! :wink
Yes, I readily and willingly confess – I am unashamedly talking through my pocket.

Semantics again folks. It depends on what you think genius means..so stop fighting children. If I was backing his horses, he would be a god for me!!!

June 19, 2008 at 17:04 #169324All my bets today revolve around South Central and Collection (where Segal plucked 10/1 about this horse from I’ll never know – he was no better than 15/2 anywhere shortly after midnight last night), with Michita a hopeful choice to boost any returns. If those three win, my next post will be from the Caribbean!
Enjoy your holiday

It’s days like today which give me hope. The way some were thinking that the fancy French raider Coastal Path, who hadn’t ran in a Group 1 before, and was unproven over the ground and distance, could just turn-up and outclass the multiple Group 1-winner and course-and-distance-specialist Yeats… as if Yeats had been getting away with it for the last two years and was now finally going to meet his comeuppance.
It reminded me of the way Inglis Drever was a predictable drifter in the last Long Walk Hurdle.
One day I’m actually going to back these horses instead of being swayed by Richi Persad’s mysterious ‘French-form man’ into just watching.

Did anyone see when Yeats kicked Regal Flush? All i saw was Yeats’ hind, move. I didnt realise that he had kicked out at another horse.
June 19, 2008 at 18:41 #169335A great performance by Yeats, and a fine bit of training by O’Brien to get the "old" horse fit and eager fro a battle.
