Great to see the overwhelmingly peaceful response last night, perhaps there is some hope.

I take no pleasure in seeing some of the thugs thrown in jail, they can have no complaints and they deserve it but more than anything it’s just very sad that they are suffering the consequences while their heroes lie on sunbeds or sit in their reassuringly expensive houses laughing at them and indeed all of us. Let’s just hope they realise who the real enemy is.

Im not into political propaganda, but a guy hits a copper in Liverpool over the weekend and today/yesterday gets 3 years in prison. A guy hits two WPC’s at Manchester airport, and ..no news on fast tracking him into the prison system.. And they wonder why..

Early guilty plea = no trial, they’re bang to rights so wasting their time doing anything other than holding their hands up. Assuming the airport guy contests then it’ll take some time. No conspiracy, just how the legal system works.

Plus of course it helps to make an example of them. Another sad thing about it, not only are they doing the bidding of their idols who are sat at a safe distance, they’re also taking the fall for the hundreds who have no doubt got away with the same thing.

These swift judgments without trial fall under the laws of Summary Offences/Justice

Following the 2011 riots – which were worse than those now (so far) – around 1,500 people were charged, of which around 1,300 were handed custodial sentences averaging 17 months

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_England_riots

A shame, but no real surprise, that the numpties who’ve taken part in the current riots didn’t consider the aftermath ‘all those years ago’

Riot, Affray, Violent Disorder, Arson, Looting are not viewed in law as ‘minor’ offences

A hot and sunny weekend beckons hand-in-hand with the start of the footie season…hmm

Landafar. You say you’re not into political propaganda but are quite happy to spread the two tier policing accusation which, in the current climate is dangerous. It’s a very complicated case and evidence has to be built up. The case of the violent thugs who caused damage to people and property is quite straightforward and needs to be seen to be carried out swiftly. In the current climate we all need to be careful what we write on social media imo especially as Elon Musk is spreading lies on X.

Moehat, Explain to me why, the guy in Manchester has not been put before the courts, the video is clear to see he struck police officers.
What occurred after is being delt with internally, and they will loose their jobs.

The Manchester Airport incident has nothing to do with rioting, it’s apples and oranges. The law is a complicated beast, cases take months to put together. If you stick people straight in front of the courts without a solid case against them they’ll get away with it and then everyone will be complaining that justice wasn’t done

The summary offence laws being invoked to deal rapidly with the rioters is an exceptional move, not the norm; one that tends to be restricted to those involved in mass disorder in order to quell further unrest, and it largely works

The Manchester airport incident will in all likelihood be dealt with as an indictable offence, and if the Crown Prosecution Service sees fit it will be tried at Crown Court by Jury. In the meantime investigations will progress in the more usual snail’s-pace manner

As for this ‘two-tier’ stuff note that two Muslims were banged-up yesterday for inciting violence against rioters and that cretinous Labour councillor who called for rioters’ throats to be cut is being held in custody

The CPS has been starved of funds in the way that everything else has been for the past 14 years, it’s just that it usually doesn’t affect people’s lives noticeably in the way that other cutbacks have. No one is condoning what those men did at Manchester airport ( although a press conference held by their solicitor does go some way to explaining the events that led up to it). There is also no excuse for a policeman to stamp on someone’s head.

I am NOT defending rioting, affray etc but some of the sentences look harsh. Two years for pushing a bin towards some coppers? It wasn’t clever or pleasant but it was hardly endangering life.

The “Two Tiers” accusation is mainly due to language. Starmer is very quick to use words like “thug” about some rioters but he never used it during the riots which started off this thread, nor did he use it to describe the people who left a policewoman with a broken nose.

He also has gone out of his way to say he is determined to protect Muslims but seems very reluctant to say anything critical when violence arises from their community. Who was Director of Public Prosecutions when grooming gangs were at their height? I don’t think he called any of them “thugs”.

Perish the thought Starmer is scared of losing more seats to “Independent” candidates…

I think some of the sentences are quite lenient up to the perpetrators of the Bradford riots in 2001. I have just looked this up and many, nearly all Asian men, received sentences of between four and six and a half years. Many of these were first time offenders who admitted their guilt. Some had their sentences reduced on appeal.

I am not saying they shouldn’t have been given these sentences but remember at the time, football hooligans who committed offences were given custodial sentences of months.

An article questioning the speed of these convictions which mentions the bin-pushing incident

    https://www.theguardian.com/politics/article/2024/aug/11/rioting-swift-justice-real-motivations-behind-uk-rampage

It really just emphasises what surely should have been obvious that some/several/many of the rioters were not ideologically driven ‘far-right thugs’ but just weak-willed unfortunates with ‘issues’: the useful idiots of the evil inciters

It remains to be seen if sentences are reduced on appeal; and anyway it seems unlikely full sentences will be served given that the prisons are chock-full and early-release schemes are in operation

The sentences have had the necessary effect , being weak willed isn’t an excuse for law breaking , as mentioned by other the people of Southport have shown how to deal with this , they’ve taken the greatest pain but haven’t struck out , they’ve shown love and community , don’t shed a tear for these union jacked Farage followers , they don’t stand for Britain

No Nathan he’s putting law breakers in prison and stopping further riots , let’s not forget he’s one of the best lawyers in the UK , nice to have qualified people in high positions , not failed journalists and the like
