I don’t want to speculate here, but more riots in Bristol, Leeds(again), Sunderland and Blackpool. With Demonstrations in Stoke-On-Trent, Manchester and Hull.
These are not happy times.
* Really struggling to express myself here, but finding things frustrating to put into words.
The only clam to fame that Southport should have is the home of Red Rum, not the riots in the past week.
Southport is a peaceful seaside town about 50 miles away from me, really like going there on days off.
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.August 4, 2024 at 14:14 #1703982I had a holiday in Southport some years ago: a pleasant town with a very long pier and fine coastal walks up to the Ribble estuary and down to Formby with its red squirrel nature reserve.
Like Hungerford, Lockerbie and Dunblane it will now be forever associated with a ghastly event
August 4, 2024 at 14:42 #1703985Southport is not so good now. The once grand Lord Street is a shadow of its former self and the pier is closed.
August 4, 2024 at 17:20 #1703993Do these idiots in Rotherham not realise they are putting ordinary people’s lives at risk in that hotel they are trying to set on fire.
The more I know the less I understand.
August 4, 2024 at 17:27 #1703995We are all ordinary people RTB in one way or another
Such a **** show all over the land
Charles Darwin to conquer the World
August 4, 2024 at 21:39 #1704004Wise words Drone, such a shame to see people doing the bidding of people who wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire. They sit in their metaphorical ivory towers (some located in the hated EU, accessed with their EU passports) laughing just like the politicians they pretend to be so different from.
Sick of this nonsense about ‘legitimate concerns’. If you have legitimate concerns then use legitimate channels to express them.
Worrying times.
August 4, 2024 at 22:14 #1704007My dad’s family live in Southport. I only live on the south coast because my mum had TB and was told she had to move away from NW England if she wanted to recover. If they’d have been rich, I’d have been raised in Tuscany but hey ho. Southport is a shadow of its former glory but it’s still a relatively nice place to live. I would certainly consider moving if it wasn’t for the weather. Saddened to see the awful murders of innocent children being hijacked by opportunists like Farage, Tice and Lennon to provoke unrest. Actual victims are forgotten.
August 5, 2024 at 04:12 #1704014Most of the idiots involved in this just want a fight , this isn’t the miners fighting for there jobs and to put food on the table , they’ve got plenty food , a 40 inch telly etc , the problem is idiots like Farage keep telling them they are under attack , a see a good number of the Southport community came out to fix and tidy up after the riot …. There is hope yet

These, amongst others, are the patriots, not the flag shagging thugs. If the thugs love their country so much then why are they destroying ‘their’ streets and putting unnecessary pressure on the police, NHS and other services? There is a lot wrong with the police at the moment but it has to be said they are restoring some faith here, I am sure things would have been much worse without them.

Perhaps they did. But were greeted by local politicians and police who either stuck their fingers in their ears; or screamed “racist” at them whenever anyone raised concerns about illegal immigration; or looked the other way “for the sake of diversity”; or were too nervous about being called racists themselves if they tried to do anything (the latter two considerations being proven facts in open court).
August 5, 2024 at 10:31 #1704023I’m sure I heard on ap podcast thatbwhites will be in the minority in the usa in 30 years time. This nonsense of legitimate concerns infuriates me.pensioners have been shafted by every govt but no rioting for that. Police cut by a qtr under the tories. Armed forces drastically cut back. What legitimate concerns means folk are voted in democratically not being those that are used to running everything.
The rioters are pathetic losers and hopefully can have a cosy wee spell at his majesty’s pleasure. The folk of Southport are the the real face of Britain not the rent a mob useless morons. Rant overAugust 5, 2024 at 11:13 #1704024Not a very good decision by the government or ITV for Ed Balls to interview Yvette Cooper on “Good Morning Britain” earlier today.
He wasn’t exactly going to give her a grilling, was he? Unless he wanted to sleep in the spare room.
He should have stood down and allowed someone else to interview her, or she should have told ITV it was inappropriate for him to interview her. Perception is important.
August 5, 2024 at 13:20 #1704055Whatever their excuses are, there is never any justification for vandalism against innocent people and their property. The ‘ordinary people’ they claim to be so concerned for are now clearing up the mess and picking up the tab. Some of them are no doubt traumatised by what they have seen.
Meanwhile their hero ‘Tommy’ or whatever he calls himself this week is crying because the Mail has told everyone what hotel thousands of miles away he’s holed up in because he’s concerned for the safety of himself and his family. Irony meters across the land must be blowing up.
August 5, 2024 at 20:44 #1704074The hypocrisy of the likes of Robinson and farage is breathtaking.

I’m actually more concerned about the fact that the racist xenophobes have their very own channel in GB News to be quite honest….I assume Farage still has his little slot on the channel when he should be in parliament or working in his constituency? Or the fact that Elon Musk allowed Yaxley Lennon back onto X/Twitter.August 5, 2024 at 22:46 #1704077I’m actually more concerned about the fact that the racist xenophobes have their very own channel in GB News to be quite honest”.
It is a channel approved and licenced by Ofcom. If it was broadcasting racist material, its licence would be terminated.
August 6, 2024 at 05:50 #1704086From Wikipedia:
“Ofcom has been criticized by some for being seen as too lenient on GB News, which has breached Ofcom rules on a regular basis. Despite having found GB News in breach of Ofcom rules 11 times in a year,[86] Ofcom has refused to levy any fines or penalties against the network, instead preferring to simply issue warnings.”
Just because Ofcom is an official body, it doesn’t mean that it’s impartial. In fact, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if significant changes were made to Ofcom by the new government.
